Does anybody know what happened to the old grey stallion?

No I do not, last I heard he was still there. They were not doing walk up adoptions with the Kigers, after the Kiger adoption. I do not know if they intend on doing an internet adoption with those left over or transporting some out east for an adoption to be held for those folks unable to attend the one held here in the west. Possibly by now they are allowing walk up adoption I do not know. I myself just do not have the required fencing and facility to house a Wild Mustang of any kind at this time. I can tell you I hope to remedy that in the future and get a chance to adopt in the future. I hated going and not being able to bring at least one home.

I'm assuming he was the ellusive grey they'd tried to gather many times before. Suzy

With several of you liking him, I was hoping he would be available afterwards if no one else took him at the auction.
If he is the one Suzy mentioned, I wonder why they wanted to gather him. To make way for the younger stallions?
I hope someone caring gets him soon. How cooperative would the BLM people be if someone were looking for him?

I guess you would just have to call and find out. I would think their goal is to find homes for these guys, they should be pretty willing to do what they can to make it easy for someone to adopt him. I am not sure he passed any of his genes on lately, as there were no other grey Kigers besides him. Not even claybanks to be seen, that may be grey. I was on look out for them as that is my fav' color. I know in the past they discussed weeding out the greys, not wanting grey to be a Kiger color. I do not think that is the case now a days, at least I hope not.

I was out at the corrals the other day and he was there then. He is a sale authority horse, so not under the same restrictions as the regularly adopted Kigers. I thought he was a pretty grand looking fellow but I have no need, or room, for a 17 year old stud! If he doesn't get sold, I imagine he will go to a sanctuary.
I heard on the radio the BLM is having a meeting about whether to offer up the left over horses on an Internet adoption. I certainly hope they do, as there are many people who have expressed an interest in them but were unable to come to Oregon for the adoption.
We have 2 orphan colts from Riddle at our place right now, Takoda and Diego. They will be going up for adoption locally in the spring sometime, when they are old enough.

I live too far away, but I want him to have a good home. I am willing to pay the adoption fee to get him into a good home. I suppose the right sanctuary would be OK. I don't want to have him sent to one of the BLM holding pens for the rest of his life.
Let me know if you know of a good PERMANENT home for him, and I'll bail him out.

from wisecomp: He is a sale authority horse, so not under the same restrictions as the regularly adopted Kigers.
I didn't put 2 and 2 together until now. I know what "without restriction" means. It means that he can be bought and sold for slaughter.
How quickly does that process occur? Do you think he'd already gone?

Okay. If anyone can figure out how to get him here, I will take him. I was approved for four horses and only brought home two, so I do qualify. If you have any ideas, shoot me an email.
I can't spend alot of time away from here again right now, but I can probably get away for a day if I need to pick him up somewhere relatively close.

The old gray stud was still there last week but I don't know if he's still there now. I would contact Ramona Bishop about him, and ask about how to purchase him, what the price would be, etc. The BLM still screens people who buy the sale authority horses and, when slaughter houses were still open in the US, they watched for, and usually refused, BLM branded horses unless they knew for sure it was OK to take them. Now that the horses get put on a truck for Mexico to much more inhumane and cruel treatment all the way around, no guarantees our wild horses don't get shipped to Mexico. But the BLM won't knowingly ship them there or sell to a kill buyer. The bad thing about adopting/buying an older stud like this guy, who was obviously a herd stallion at least a portion of his life, is gentling them can be not only dangerous but iffy. Not saying it can't be done, and every horse is different, but it's not like getting just any horse to gentle. Another thing is a person would most certainly want to geld them and at their age, that can be risky. I've known more than one aged wild stallion that has died under surgery. Not trying to discourage anyone, just speaking from experience! Andi Burns, Oregon Last Chance Ranch equine.wisecomp.com/

Andi,
thanks for the words of wisdom. I know it is a big undertaking for sure. I would rather not geld him, I have seen too many bad things happen with older horses.
I would like to find a sanctuary for him after whatever time I needed to keep him for. That would be my plans.
I don't know if it is even realistic with transportation and such all this way. We do have room and a nice, safe place for him. He would be able to be social too with other horses.
But I am open to ideas and seeing if someone can come up with something for him.

Michelle,
I will pay the adoption fee assuming that it is within the standard range. The transportation may complicate things.
You are really willing to help him find a retirement home? That is very generous. I can also make a monthly donation toward his keep.
Trying not to get my hopes up too soon, Linda

I have sent an email to a shipping company I really trust to get a quote. But, I also wondered if the BLM would ship him to their facility in Oklahoma and he could be picked up there. They had that option for other adopters, right? Weren't they making a run in December?
