The thing about this guys eyes is, there's no meanness or anger in them. His whole way of being seems regal and gentle and kind of above it all from the pictures I've seen of him. He really would be a fantastic model for horse pictures. You want history, he sure seems to embody it. And from what I've seen, he is in fantastic condition for his age. I do animal pictures myself. I inserted a few so you could see. Animals eyes really draw me. Eyes really are the window to the soul, maybe that's why we love our horses so much. They have such big beautiful windows into even more beautiful souls.

Those are beautiful studies of the animals. I really like that technique. I agree about the eyes. Linda

Has anyone read the new BLM newsletter?! The old grey man is getting his last chance at adoption! Here's a copy and paste from the newsletter:
Age: 17 Sex: Stallion Herd: Riddle Mountain Gathered: October 2007 WHY ADOPT THIS HORSE: Big Gray was offered for adoption at the November Kiger Mustang event in Hines, but suffered by comparison to the young, dun studs. / At the time of the gather, Big Gray was looking rough and a bit thin... but he has since cleaned up, bulked up, and turned into a great looking man. Nervous about his age? Most think a 17 year old stud could be nothing but trouble... not in this case. Big Gray is very calm and has a very relaxed disposition. He isn’t young enough to be offered through internet adoption or other satellite adoptions and is ‘age-acceptable’ for the sale authority...which means his last hope for adoption is now! Otherwise he will head off to long term holding... How to adopt Big Gray: Beginning February 1, we’ll be doing a special ‘email adoption’ for Big Gray... we’ll send out a note via email, announcing his availability and the start of the ‘offering.’ After 2 weeks (the promotion ends at 4:30pm, pacific time, February 15), whoever sends in the highest offer (via email) will adopt Big Gray! The successful adopter must meet the adoption requirements of the Wild Horse and Burro Program and have an approved application before taking Big Gray home. EXTRA, EXTRA: Big Gray will be hauled for free to the successful adopter within an 800 mile radius of the corral facility in Hines, or shipped for free to one of the following holding facilities: Elm Creek, Nebraska; Ewing, Illinois; or Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Questions?: Contact Ramona Bishop at 541-573-4439 or Patti Wilson at 541-5733 4424

I just posted this info in the general area, too.
It's not an 800 mile radius for delivery, though, unless I'm not remembering my math right (very possible!) It's 400 miles, making it 800 miles round trip.

Oh man I wish there was a way for me to bring this boy home. I fell for him when I went to see him at the corrals and hated leaving him behind. Now another opportunity and throw in free delivery that is very tempting. The reality of it is I have a herd of mares that are my riding horses, everything here is quite and calm, bring a stallion into the mix and everyone's demeanor is bound to change. Not to mention convincing my husband to buy another horse and build a special corral for said horse, well at this date and time it just is not ganna' happen. The good thing is they seem to have plenty interest in the big gray man enough so to do this special email adoption, that we can be hopeful that he will get a forever good retirement home.

I hope you get him too Michelle! He can at least be shipped to OK, I think Tara said -- how far is that from you?
I pestered the BLM and Ramona told me they would have a very special adoption just for him but they hadn't announced how or anything yet so I couldn't give any real update!
Go for it!
