He's looking fantastic. I sure wish they would do an online auction with him as well. I think they would end up getting more money because emotions get involved. But at least we would be able to see who's winning. I really hope you win Michelle, I think we have all gotten rather attached to him, maybe he can be the board mascot

You are so right kigerfan in that we have gotten' a bit attached to ol' guy, I know I have. I most certainly hope he ends up with Michelle. Closed bids are a bit scary with that "you just never know" factor. I will be so glad when we finally know where his new home will be. The anticipation is driving me nutz and I am not even bidding.

Countdown....! I have not put in my bid yet, was wondering if they would at least tell me how many bids they have had so far. Gosh, I have NO idea what to bid!

The bid should be more than slaughter price since he's eligible for that. Let us know if you need folks to chip in. It would be fun to have a board horse.

I can not help you with how much to bid, I have no clue as to the majic number that would bring him home to Michelle. I have no idea how many more folks out there have shown interest in the old guy. I know there must be more then just Michelle or they would have sent him home with her already as they have been aware of her interst in him sense after the 2007 adoption. I would be willing to chip in, as well.

Here's the bulletin I got today.... looks like his only bid so far is $125! Amanda
Hello everyone,
Just wanted to remind you that bidding is still open on our 17 year old Gray Kiger stallion. He is so gorgeous. At present, the top offer is $125. Remember, bidding closes this Friday at 4:30 p.m. pacific time!
I also wanted to clarify what is mentioned below in the 'EXTRA, EXTRA' section - BLM can only provide free hauling for Big Gray up to 400 miles one-way (a 400-mile radius, 800 mile round trip) from the corral facility located in HINES, OREGON. Originally, when we issued the January 'Corral Voice' Newsletter, we hoped to be able to ship Big Gray further than 400 miles (I believe we mentioned shipping to an outlying facility and/or within an 800 mile radius). This is no longer a possibility since all our shipments back east have already departed or will depart before bidding on Big Gray closes this Friday.
The official solicitation to bid on Big Gray, which was sent out on February 1 via email (copy below), did NOT offer free hauling beyond 400 miles from Oregon; we apologize for the confusion. Don't forget to get an approved application in! (Call if you have questions about this, or fax your application to the Burns BLM at 541-573-4411, or let us know if you already have an approved application for internet adoptions...)
Happy bidding!

Yes, I got that too...that is the BAD news! I will call tomarrow to confirm, but it looks as if now he won't be delivered to a facility close by. Transportation out of Bend is very pricey, not to mention finding someone to haul a wild horse plus the fact when I contacted shippers in December, no one would do it over the winter months. They are having an adoption just south of here the last weekend in Feb, so MAYBE I would still have a chance to get him brought in close. What a total bummer.

I'm getting my Kiger colt in Lexington, VA, on March 28th. They should be able to ship him with that load, shouldn't they? Where do you live again? Have you sent in a bid yet? When's the deadline?

yes, very disapointing news. Ramona called me back yesterday afternoon and said they could not do any transport on him. I just hope he winds up in a good home.

Oh I am so very sad and disappointed. But I completly understand how you are in a pickle on your end. As I am on my end to why I could not bring him home myself. I am at least happy that there is interest in adopting him and he will be going to a home and not be put down. I hope that we will find out thru the grape vine just who his new onwer is.

That's just sad, would have been very neat for him to be the board horse and mascot, what a regal mascot he would have been. Was it mentioned to them that they are already taking a auctioned colt out that way?

I was told that all the horses going out have already shipped. I wish they would have planned his auction better so he could have had a better chance for the best home.
