I agree he is looking good and fuzzy like a teddy bear. Just makes you want to go out and give him big hugs...well that is just me...lol. I am sure my horses think I am crazy always giving out hugs and kisses. I just love warm fuzzy horses in the winter and horse fur in the face always smells good.

Nola,
I am curious about your fencing. I think my brother is wanting to do something similar. It looks like you have something (PVC??) sunk in concrete and then traditional wood round poles droped inside them?
Can you elaborate on what you've done there?

we have old dairy fencing it is metal poles with cable strung through, the pvc you see was dropped in the top for protection, we also have t posts so he can't get between the strands. We have six strands of cable strung. Yes the poles are in cement. the pen in almost 40 x 40. i hope this has helped. nola

Today I went out and groom Riddle he was such a gentleman and he is shedding like it is summer here, but for him i think it is. he is getting a good shine to his coat. No problem letting me clean his feet, he is still a bit flinchy when i groom him, but he will get use to us and all the loving he will get from us. Also he is getting so much better about getting his worm medicine. We will give him another dose in 30 days then we will get him on the same schedule as my other horse's. He is coming along wonderfully. nola

Thanks for posting pictures and I am so glad to hear all went well. They look pretty relaxed riding together other then the tight rein, but maybe Riddle had more energy that day. Riddle was ready to take Jim for a faster ride ride then Jim was ready for that day My horses are all excited to go with so much time off already this winter and mine are shedding alot already as well. The snow is starting to melt and the days and nights are warmer.

it is on the chin chain and how it is attached to the bit. yes he was a bit full of it, so he did have to ride with a tight rein, he should calm down here soon now that we can ride more often. but they are saying rain this coming weekend.

we are going to ride him and Stormy for about 40 mins a day every day then on the weekends Saturday for a few hours but off on Sunday, We want to get them involved in team sorting, and penning, once they accomplish that then we will go on to something else, want to show the diversity of this breed. Yes we are having good weather, just remember we hit triple digits. so we have to slack off riding, that is when you all take off and are able to ride allot, then I am jealous of your weather. so we do allot spring, winter (for the most part), and fall.

I'm curious that you have a curb chain on a snaffle bit ? Not the way this style of bit is rigged. The chain or strap is used with a curb bit that works with leverage on the shanks & poll. The snaffle works more on the lips & tongue & is often used with a nose band for more control that can be fitted snug to avoid the horse opening his mouth .Something young horses will do to evade the connection . Just looked at the photo again & he looks like he's accapting the bit well & has a relaxed jaw & expression.I'd just leave the chain off cause it's not doing anything anyway & may irritate him.

The chin strap on a snaffle bit is meant to keep the bit from pulling through the horses mouth, when direct reining a horse as is being shown in the picture. Just a suggestion though, an all leather strap would be better than a chain curb strap.

I have to agree with skybar, I always use chin straps on snaffle bits just to keep them in place.

yes that is what i was taught too it is to keep it in place, we use this type because we don't have to worry about the leather drying out due to hot weather, horse slobber what ever. I have always used this style.
