Thank you everyone so much for the nice comments on the colt. Gringo has exceeded my expectations for sure. The only thing I need to be careful with is breeding him to good sized mares. I sure don't want to get into a situation to where we have to go through trauma to get a foal on the ground. No thanks. We've decided on naming him Bayo Maximo. I've been calling him iMax all day... Just kind of flowed from Hi Max! He is still figuring out his legs and being crammed in that belly they still have some straightening to do. He is starting to get the feel of things and bounce around the stall. I came in the barn this morning and always check on Gringo and Hawk first because they are in the other barn. Gringo was not eating and acting kind of depressed. I went to mix him up some probis and enzymes and when doing so, I peeked out the feed room window to check on Chilli and Max. Chilli was laying down - which is not normal due to the fact she is a chow hound and it was feeding time. I went and checked her, she seemed painful and did not get up. I immediately though infection, so I checked her temp - it was normal. Next I thought of the vet saying to keep an eye on her because with that much of an open space now, her uterus could flip. She stood up soon after I took her temp and was all sucked up with her flanks quivering. I gave her some Banamine and called the vet who started on his way out. The Banamine took effect quickly and she was feeling better enough to eat a half flake of alfalfa. I checked her water and she did not drink much overnight - where the day before she drank a lot. She had a good amount of poop in the stall, but it was pretty dry. Thankfully, she was just a little dehydrated and needed some fluids instead of her uterus having problems. She is doing much better tonight and feeling like herself. Phew! Oh...and Gringo stood at his window watching all the goings on with Chilli and once she was acting more normal - he began eating and being himself. I think he was just worried when he could not see Chilli while she was down. How sweet! Snapped a few quick pictures today...first one of Chilli per requests! One of Max and Chilli for size comparison...Chilli is 15'1.

Love that last picture, Chili sure loves her kids. Michelle, are you ready for a 16.3 colt? Look at the length of those cannon bones! Good thing you were there and the vet came quickly, not fun but looks like quite a treasure you have for it.

Whew! is right...I still can't fathom that all that colt was in chilli', but then again we all saw that belly. Prayers and best wishes for no more complications, a quick recovery for Chilli' and boy I can't wait for pictures once Max does find his legs...yeehaw!

I absoulutely love that name! It's great to hear that chilli is doing well and it was just dehydration. I wonder how many hands high max well string test at since gringo tested at i believe 17HH's. I also love how dark his stripes are showing up!

I am really hoping hoping hoping Gringo does not get 17's! Yes, he did string test that tall, but he has very long cannon bones and his knees are higher than most horses. Right now he is solid 16'1 and if he grows like the rest of our guys, he should go 2 more inches over the next year and then let's hope he is done! Even so, 16'3 is not too far from 17...
Chilli is going very well today - all systems working good! iMax is working on motoring around the stall...
