The other thread started to get me thinking of what kiger stallions are still out there? As an "outsider" looking in it is hard to track down kiger stallions. I feel like I only know of a couple compared to how many are really out there. Also the economy is making breeders reconsider their financial support, so they are gelding stallions. What stallions are your personal favorites and why? Who has been shown? Basically, any info you can give on any stallion would be great. I am having a hard time tracking down things I would like to know about kiger stallions.

Sundance passed away this past February and I believe the DeBaere's still have Dundee... Can't imagine they'd ever geld him. I believe Dianne's friend still has Bravo intact but she can fill us in on him... I'd have to say that they're my favorite though Chinny was a fav too and now he's a lovely gelding. Oh! My other big fave is Dino and his owners frequent this board. He is a knock out and oh so sweet. Michelle's Charro is still available to pretty ladies too, he is definitely something to behold... There are a lot of really nice studs out there still... Seems like there's more but they aren't popping to mind right this second.

Steens Vaquero is still out there, They just redid his web page. here is his link www.fourniertraining.com/cowboy.htmlOh I forgot to mention why I like Steens Vaquero aka Cowboy. I guess because I know him personaly. He is just so easy, wonderful disposition and yes very handsome. To watch him perform is very impressive.

Sbutter, there is a Mustang directory on line where you can check out a lot of the Kigers that are registered in one of the 5 Kiger registries. You can find it at www.uskigers.com/directory.htm

Yes, there are a couple of Chinook's sons still around. Bravo is going to be promoted by his new owner. I'm holding onto Blue, out of Lark. There is a great guy that I would love to have bought back and put into training with Kevin, Rio Canyon. But I couldn't swing the money. He is the grandson of Charro, out of Calista. You can see Charro in him, and Chinook as well. I don't really see many Kigers that I would call proven. To me that means that not just the sons and daughters but also the grandkids have that superior quality that is easily recognized. Charro is one that qualifies that way. All of Calista's foals were exceptional, no matter whether they were out of Dundee, (Caliente), Chinook (Rio, Chickadee and Quil Ceda), or Bravo (Briazz). Steens Kiger is the best in this way, the qualities that he gives you can see in his grandsons and granddaughters, as exampled by Cedar and Lark's foals (with help from Cowboy). But as far as performance, I don't see any Kiger stallion that has proven himself by performing and then passing that ability to excel at some sport to his get.

I saw a lot of kigers by Wallowa Kiger on the uskigers directory. People must have really liked him if he had so many foals. Any more info on him? Who are some key foundation kiger stallions and why?

Kiger Sundance's Bolero my stallion out of Springtime is still intact. I turned down the chance to breed him to 3 Kiger mares due to the number of horses that couldn't find homes in these terrible economic times. I will not further add to the problem of too many horses without homes or a job. I am looking for the right person to complete his training and to show and promote him. He has so much of Sundance (sire) and Steens Kiger (grandsire) in him and Springtime put a great rear end on all 4 of her foals including Bolero. He deserves to serve as a stud. I sure want to see if he passes on the Steen Kiger/Sundance heritage. He has personality plus. I had a warm blood breeder who has little respect for mustangs urge me to offer him to warmbloods, she was so impressed. Our economic reversal has prevented me from accomplishing more. He was taken through his first ride and then our income dropped dramatically and I could go no further. What a waste! It breaks my heart. I'll see if my hubby can send a photo from last summer that is in his computer. Dianne, Rio is a beauty! And you know well how I admire Chinny. Cedar deserves recognition for her foals and grandfoals. Linda D

Will do Michelle. There are quite a few stallions in the threads in this title. Some very nice ones. Ones that haven't been mentioned are Cheryl Walsh's grulla, Capitano and Circle S's Kiger Diamond Rio. Jillian at Karisma Kigers has a new grulla stallion, I don't know if he's breeding yet. There is the one I wrote you about in Lodi near you. Clay Bank Ranch in Oklahoma still has their stallions I believe. I think Judy Yancy in Florida was going to sell Warrior, not sure if she did. She had some nice looking foals from him. Bravo is going to be promoted by his new owner and I have some frozen semen from Chinook. Oh, there is Tyee Canyon, out of Cedar and Sundance down in Nevada. He would be close enough to go see.

Just a quick update....
The Clay Bank Ranch sold Nieto De Sombre, aka Shadow their grullo stallion and sire to our stallion Shelby but still have their Silverado son, Casper. I also remember reading the ad for Warrior and I believe she did find a buyer for him.

I would love to know who bought Warrior and Bravo. My plan was to breed Firefly but the economy beat both my husband and I. Both of us are currently jobless. I took a job to have a job for about ten months working for a very mentally abusive boss before I finnally lost my temper with her. It looks like we will be moving to San Diego as there seems to be more opportunity for us there. Right now I'm talking to a very nice woman that runs an Andalusian breeding facility. It's a private facility, but she is willing to let Firefly board there as she really seems to like Firefly. I will know more after next week. She has a pre-stallion that she is interested in breeding to Firefly so we'll se what comes of it. At the least, she will be in a nice facility. We're making a deal in that for part of her board I will be doing some woodworking things around her ranch. Any port in a storm, I will do anything to keep from having to sell my little girl. I am looking to the San Diego area for a brighter future.

We have 3 stallions standing here at Horse Springs Kiger Ranch. My Kiger Tiger, who is quite prepotent in his get, who do excel in many disciplines, from trail horses to dressage horses, with some even being used in kids camps, therapeutic riding programs, and even some cattle work. It is hard to look at one of his foals and not know he is the sire. He definitely stamps his get. I do think one of the biggest problems is being able to afford the training on any one horse to get them to thier potential. HS My Kiger Kodiak has begun to show through his get, both his sire and dams talent and athletic abitlity as well as his own. Kody is a wonderfully talented mount, currently doing training level dressage and switching gears easily to do hunt seat and even western pleasure. Fuego is a joy in many ways. You cannot beat his temperament. He is a stallion who just gets along with everyone. He is so laid back. There is just nothing to not like about this guy, and although he has only sired 2 foals to date, both yearlings, shows promise as a sire. I can't wait to get one of his offspring going on cows, as Fuego is such a natural cow horse.
