Nola:
Enjoy the first foal...Mine was a blast....but I think I was more paranoid than when I had my own children....luckily my Kiger mare was very experienced at it and other than her giving birth and shooting the foal UNDER the gate (the only darn place in her huge pen that was 4ft across where there wasn't fencing down to the ground) when she delivered we did fine...it gave me a heart attack though to go out to check her and find that she had just delivered the foal underneath the gate! He had already got his legs enough I was able to open the gate and shove him back through and everything was good...but that scared the bejezus out of me!

I bet it did. This is her 5 the pregnancy but 4th live birth, her last one she slipped and fell and lost it at 5 months along. I too am more nervous then when I had my 4, and 2 were premies. But she will be ok, allot of people there where she is at to render help if need be.

How very exciting. Fantasy was my first ever foal, when I went out and bought a pregnant just gentled Mustang. It was a very wonderful experience and a dream come true for me. I hope your first experience is just as wonderful as mine was. Flashy is a lovely lady, I am sure she will have a equaly wonderful foal.

thank you, I know they know exactly what to do it is in there DNA but I worry, and so far all the babies are really pretty coloring. We're rather sure this one will be black and white. she is bagging up then going down, one side at a time. She loves have a cool wash cloth used to clean between her teets. we do that 2 times a week.

Today I got my foal bag ready, and it is my tack room at the stables. And as I was walking down to check on my horse's I stopped and flashy is allot bigger today then yesterday, I thought maybe I was seeing things, but nope, the baby is positioning getting ready, A friend showed me how the baby is now positioned, we are getting excited. The stable owner laughed at my bag, It is full of all the things we need for the foal, and also for our horses. Which i will keep ready for any problem that might arise. I feel at the most 30 days more. I am getting excited.

Turned Flash and Stormy out in the paddock like I always do, but tonight Flashy was such a witch, she chased Stormy, trying to bite her, kick her, and just was being mean, needless to say I pulled stormy out, she was huffing and puffing really hard, I did not like it. Flashy was just fine. Was told that is the norm for the last month or so of the pregnancy. So Flash will be turned out by her self from this time on till we wean her baby from her, then she will be getting an attitude adjustment, which is a long time coming, round pen, ground work will be waiting for her. i really wish I had her from the beginning, and not after others had her. she has some bad habits that we have to try to undo.

today as I turned her out to roll, run, walk, what ever she wanted I saw she was walking (waddling)like the foal is right there waiting to come and greet the world. She is having the last foal for that stud, he has been gelded now. I am getting excited, but one thing do all mares get down right moody and snippy, and ornery before they have their foal? she is getting that way, and we are having a hard time catching her when we do turn her out, we do get her but she gives us a run for our money.I am new to this foaling world.
