when it is closer to her date should I wrap her whole tail, and if so when should i do this, I am a newbie at this, one thing her tail isn't as long as it use to be because a mare beside her ate it I wanted to shoot the eater but I didn't. not for real, I was just that angry.

You don't have to wrap her tail, I only wrap the the top of Fantasy's tail with vet wrap to keep the majority of her tail clean. I do not braid it because I don't want the baby getting hit with a heavy braid. I unwrap it right after the birth. When you get a gut feeling tonight she might foal then wrap her tail...of course she may fool you

went out and forgot my camera, turned Flashy out she roll'd and wanted to come in and let me catch her real easy, she just wasn't acting like her self today, i looked at her teets, but no bagging from what i could tell, her backside did look different, but i understand they change, but to tell you the truth I am a newbie and not sure what i am looking for. but she is allot more calmer today, and quiet in her actions. could be soon I feel.

Sometimes if you try and feel the top of her bum on either side of her tail head if it feels like jello rather then solid muscle under your hands, it means things are relaxing and loosening up to allow easier passage of the foal. Sense she has yet to show you signs by baggging up you can check her for what we call a 'jello' bum'.

Check the milk if she'll let you. If it is opaque, it is soon. If still clear, probably not within a couple of days. If it gets sticky yellow, very soon (Xana's didn't turn yellow, but my other mare did). I bought a foal prediction kit that tests the milk and it has been right on for me. I love this kit! It was about $50, but has enough in it to do 15 tests. It will be lasting me at least 3 seasons, so good investment. Anyone else use it?

We use two milk tests.... EM Quant Test Strip - Total Hardness (40-230 ppm) Catalog No. M100251 Whatman Type CS Test Strips (pH Range 6.0 - 8.1) Catalog No. 0987620 The first one is for calcium level, the second for ph level. I get them from www.fishersci.comUsed together they are very accurate. We keep diligent records of our mares each year to compare and we are getting a pretty good idea of when we need to keep an eye on them for foaling. We make it a point to be present for each birth (though it does not always work that way!). We have mares like Momma who will get milk within only 24 hours of foaling, them mares like Chilli who will leak it onto her legs for a week first.

Flashy's daughter gave birth 6 weeks ago, and the night before she was just dripping, I have asked her previous owner and he was no help, even though she had 2 foals while he had her. So I am in the dark. She bags up then goes down. I will just keep an eye on her.

not much change, but today we fenced her 20 x 20 stall with no climb, getting it ready for her to deliver in. She seemed to say to us hey why are you putting me in jail. I am getting so anxious for her to have that baby. will keep you all posted.

she is bred to a black and white regestered paint, who has the H gene, so they feel we will have a black paint, since Flashy has thrown only solids in all of her births to date. His regestered name is JD Double True True. She also will be having his last baby, they gelded him a month or so back.

flashy lost her plug, tonight she is leaking clear fluid out of her hooha, she is lifting her tail, kicking at her stomach she has no flank, we are in the final day's I hope hours, Just came home from sitting in my tack room straight shot/view of her pen. Put down straw for her. Decided she has had 4 babies she does not need me to watch, plus she figured I was there, and I have heard they can stop labor, if they feel threatened. so I did not want that to happen. If she has it tonight I will get a call in the morning.

no baby yet, but she is getting quiet, and stand offish more so then before, except she will let me touch her and rub on her, but it is on her terms. forgot to add: we turned her out I was cleaning up the soiled straw out of her pen, she was feeling her oats, running, bucking and just have a good time, her bum is a jello bum, her whoohaa has elongated allot she is still dripping clear fluid, and that tail will not stop switching and lifting. she is close we hope tonight, but it will happen when she is ready and not before but man it is making me crazy..
