Dollie got a little ride in this morning by me taking her to the pasture since i cant keep up with her and back to the corral this evening by my husband just because he could. I love him, he is too good to me. Frodo had a long day out in the pasture and was very tired.

lol I am so excited to finally get to meet my +1 soon. My sister-in-law went into labor this morning so that is really exciting because i am next in line... well minus Frodo's possible playmate who was due last month. But i do absolutly love this shot. My favorite things all in one picture (sadly missing the dogs but that is ok)

Yes he sure is coming together nicely!! I know it's a hard decision to keep or sell but you still have at least 4 or 5 more months to decide what to do. By then his personality will really be coming out..>!

the best part is, if you cant tell, he is so not a horse person. Dollie is so easy going but is a little more sensitive on her sides then her neck so he tries to neck rein on her like he can do on his uncles ranch horses and she just kinda sits there like "what the heck are you asking me to do" It is so funny to watch them together. She knows exactly where she is going, both directions, so all anyone has to do is just hang on for the ride. She will even stop along the fence so you dont have to jump off, nifty little trick i taught her since i dont always like the hard landing on cement. I love that mare... lol
As far as Frodo goes. I am super torn as to what to do with him. Had he been a she, she would have deffinately stayed. But since he is a he and i have limited experience dealing with stud colts I am considering selling him. However so far he is so calm and sweet and easy going, which makes me really want to keep him and just geld him next year and then finish working with him as a gelding. I have the space to keep him and Dollie seperate and no other horses near by to get him excited. It is just hard, with having my own baby coming really soon, to try to decide what to do. To get attached or not to get attached that is the question? Since i sold the two year old filly last year that was going to be an amazing kids horse and now regretting that decision because they are already selling her so their daughter can do something else. I really debate selling him because he has that same easy going attitude and personality.

Great pict...Dollie is really a nice mare. I sometimes hate selling horses to kids because they many times lose interest or want the "next level" horse (whatever that means!). Very few honestly have the "bug" these days. Man, you could never get me away from a horse - as a child, as a teenager or now!

You can geld him at 6 months and then you won't have any worries about dealing with a stud colt. He is a nice looking horse. I think I would want to keep him! Your child can ride Dollie while you ride him :-)

lol the one thing dollie doesn't do is pony rides, lol. She can be rather opinionated and if she sences you dont know what you are doing you had better hang on and enjoy the ride because you are gunna go where she wants when she wants... normally to the next food pile.
The kid i sold the two year old to was 8. She and her parents "fell in love" with her. Well the kid decided she wanted to join this girls rodeo group and decided that she needed a bigger horse. There was nothing i could do, just be disappointed.
I do want to keep him but how fair will that be to him? Put him out in pasture for two years and propbably get half of all the trainng i would have ben able to do with him without a kid... there is where my biggest delema lies. How bad would it be to just put him out to pasture by himself or with a herd of cows, unless i can magically get permission to put both babies together (him and the qtr that is way overdue)?

Michelle... with having all the space i have but having very little experience with stud colts .. what would you do? I know you keep the boys intact until their third spring because you have the space and ability. I have the space but would it be worth it?

The only way it works is if you have more than one stud colt; keeping one intact by himself defeats the purpose. Even if kept with a gelding, they don't learn proper socialization and get too full of themselves that can lead to trouble even when gelded. If you plan on selling him, the best is to geld him before he is a year old because most of your market will want a gelding anyway and it will be easier that way.
