Love the idea, Not only for the Kiger owner but also for the Kiger Lover. However, as a previous non owner but a lover the breed/type, which ever you prefer, for over 10yrs it was very dishearting & frustrating for me to follow the breeding, programs, shows, who was who, their linage, accomplishments, so on & so on. Over the years I gave up many times and then would come back in hopes that things had changed. The continous, he said she said, My club is better than your club, We won't share what we know because your wrong & we are right. HAS GOT TO STOP!!!!!!! This time the past must be left behind, learn from the mistakes, swallow the pride and start thinking about the Goal : PROMOTING THE HORSE!!!! Giving others, "meaning" new individuals wanting to find out more, the ability to easily obtain the information freely. I Don't beleive that a registry should deni propestive new comers this type of information. I would have bought from a breeder along time ago if it hadn't been for the secretiveness of the information. And I'll bet there were alot of others that would have bought from a breeder also. I'm not saying that the breed doesn't need a regsitry, because it does, but from the prespective of being an outsider trying to become part of the Kiger family I can tell you this, neither one has made a lot of progress in the last 10yrs. The Kiger breed is nowhere near to being were it should have been by now.
Well, that is something I have wanted to say for many years, Grow up people, forget personal agendas & do what needs to be done for the KIGER, Or you are just wasting your time on this new project.
"Deep breath" Ok said what I had to say. Now! Please let me know how I can be apart of the of the solution. Viva the kiger !!!

?where will these meetings be held, and what about those of us who live far from Burns, but have something to say. and how do we vote if we do, and keep it fair and square. Just wondering.

Phone conference meetings can be arranged- or a chat-room type thing. Since this to be a national/international organization in person meetings would be too difficult.
I think the simpler things can be kept, the better- focus on promotion and accurate information about the breed so prospective owners and breeders can make educated choices for themselves.
People should be excited to get involved in this breed, not be weighed down by politics and complications.

Great comments. There are lots of online ways to have meetings and we can vote by email on issues. Regional reps, like someone suggested, is a great idea.

Came across another small breed association that has a nice description of their purpose, etc... : blazerhorse.com/ I think they could do a better job of "showing" how versatile or fun their horses are with more pictures-as I'm still not really even sure what a Blazer is or why I might think of them for my next horse--but they have some nice wording that might fit our goals for this association. I think that one of our Association's goals should be that it is a place where the question- what is a Kiger and how do I know I have a Kiger or that the horse I will be buying is a Kiger can be answered easily (and without drama). Obviously offspring of previously unregistered horses will be harder to pin down- but I'd like a nice definition out there to help clear up the many misconceptions about the breed.

I know it costs a bit of money but i think there should be a "collection" of all the DNA test results and parentage results that way if someone has a kiger who isn't registered they can test them and compare against who they were told the parents were or can find who they are... i don't know how well that would work but it is a thought

AQHA actually does that type of DNA testing with their horses but i believe with a smaller gene pool it will be a lot more successful if somebody does that with the kigers. I would love to get my horse DNA-typed and compare it to the wild born kiger's DNA. All of the ideas sound awesome. Another good registry is Horses of America or HOA their website is pretty organized and has a list of breeders and foundation horses listed.

I spoke to UC Davis and asked about a genetic profile on my Kigers and they said they do not do that and it can not be done on Kigers. Blew my mind...wanted to see if there were problems in breeding my Stormy to Riddle.
