"He gave me a huge scare today! I'm still not sure what the problem was, but I think the little man is out of the woods. I'll know for sure in the morning. Mom got colicy and i think that caused her milk to draw back up, so the little guy wasn't getting enough to eat. That made his sugar drop, his body temp drop, and he got weak and dehydrated. After some Foal-Lac, an enema, plastic over the barn windows, a propane heater, and some banamine for mom, I think we're safe.
On another note, my vet PISSED me off! In not so many words, he pretty much said it wasn't worth his time to come out if I wasn't going to shell out $1500 for plasma transfusions. Gah!"

Little Guy is back to 100% today. I think he just got dehydrated and had a little bit of colic himself. But he's eating, pooping, and peeing. And he was NOT gonna let he corner him and syringe feed him formula today. I could just hear him saying:
"huh uh! last time you crammed an enema up my rear and force fed me that nasty formula, you aren't gonna lay a finger on me today!"
I don't blame him! LOL

So glad to hear he popped right back to his fiesty self, strong enough to make objections. Kira is doing better as well I take it ? I hate those scary moments such a relief when they pass.

Oh how cute. Love the pictures of him nursing, up close and personal. Glad that he rallied and is doing so well.
Michelle, how nice of you to give a thread to each foal.

The weather is just now starting to cooperate! He was born Monday, we got almost 6 more inches of snow on Tuesday. It's been so cold I had to put plastic over the door and window on his stall to keep the wind chill down. Now, finally, this weekend it's supposed to be in the 40's today and 50's tomorrow.
As for the vet, I only use that guy for emergencies because my mother has a line of credit with him. When I have an emergency, I can use her credit then pay her back. Otherwise, that vet is overpriced and in my opinion, a really crappy vet. My other vet (first choice) was already closed due to the weather. I keep meaning to call him back and give him a big fat "I told you so!" because I told him I didn't think the baby needed plasma, I thought he was colicy, dehydrated, and impacted.
I can barely drag myself away from the barn to go to work, lol. But going to work is necessary if I want to continue supporting these ponies!
