Who's planning on riding with us in August? I'm hauling into Burns on Aug. 5, then up to the campground on the 6th. We'll have the 7-9th to ride, then break camp the 10th.
Let me know if you're planning on attending, and if you'll want a place to stay in Burns before heading up into the mountains. I'm trying to see if I can get group rates.

I'm planning on going -- I think. I'll have to ask my buddies who will be going (one of which is my mom who will be my babysitter.)

Kim, we're going to ride the South Steens in August. Wanna come along?
Will any of you need rooms at the Horseshoe for yourselves and your ponies?
I'm also going to try to make this a fundraiser and get sponsors/donations towards Mustang U. Not a mandatory thing for y'all to be able to ride, but if you're up to finding some sponsors who'd contribute, we'd surely appreciate it!

Tracey, I would love to tag along! Is this a geldings/mares only thing. or can we ride our stallions? Too many horses and only one butt, so I have several I can choose from to bring! If I can find someone to hold down the fort here for that long, I'd like to caravan down with you. I'm assuming from the header this is a women only thing?

Yup, women only (Sorry, Kevin!) As long as your boy is well behaved around mares, I'm okay with him coming along. Not sure who's riding what, but if there's a chance he may try to seduce the young ladies after dark, best leave him home

So, what is the cost?

Haven't checked at the Horseshoe yet to see what they charge, but the campground is just $6 per night...so what is that, $24?
As far as the fundraising costs; I'm thinking I'll try to put together some prizes for the most $ brought in, or something like that. Not mandatory that anyone seek sponsors, but it'd be great if they could.

Well, we are home from our trip to South Steen's. We had a fabulous time. ;D We didn't see any other women there though. We did however see about forty horses and most of them were pinto's. Some were so dang gorgeous. They are rounding up these horses in 2 months, so it will be interesting to see soome of these beauties in the corrals and how much they go for! One stallion was a medicine hat (on the left) and his baby (the one I want!) next to him! i38.photobucket.com/albums/e127/stormyranch/south%20steens/ssteens029.jpg[/IMG]This is a stallion. You can see his battle scars on his shoulder and neck! We got closer to the horses than I have ever been before. We hid behind our horses and walked to wards them. They came to us to check us out, but were leery because our horses weren't acting like wild horses. Our horses just stood there and didn't act nervous like the wild horses were. The stallion finally got tired of us not acting like "wild Horses" and took his herd off. He did come back again though. It was so much FUN!! This is The Big Indian Gorge from the top of the Steens. We rode up the gorge. This is us riding up the big Indian gorge. My daughters friend on Dino. She is a professional photographer, so I can't wait to see her photos!

Nice pictures. Are those horses known as the Steens Pintos? Very nice looking horses. Melissa www.kigeranne.com
