I want to say liver chestnut dun (dark red dun), but is his mane a real dark shade of red brown/black or actually black? I am just guessing here, but I think the dun gene leaves the body lighter. Yet, the points, mane, tail and dorsal remain the dark liver coloring like this liver chestnut Rocky Mountian Horse....

I would say dun. We had a colt who was very similar in color and was a dun... Though I'd be curious on the color of the parents as well.

Are the legs black or dark brown? There is only a piece of them in one photo. The mane looks like more burgandy than black. My guess is super sooty red dun, he is lots darker than Calista. But the legs would help tell. For sure for sure would be to send hair in for color testing.

My boy Sig was similar in that pic of Keeper's face that's why I say dun. But, Sig had brown legs and his mane and tail were black. He was kind of a mystery but never faded or looked red dun, except his brown legs! Strange guy... Oh, and Sig was by my boy Sunnie and out of a bay mustang mare.

I think he is a bay with counter shading. He can't be a dun as both of his parents are bay. His mane looks black, but lightened up due to the sun. Bays also have the black outlining of their ears. Sorrel/chestnuts do not.

You obviously don't know much about Dino! Dino has a definite dorsal and is a dark dun. It is possible to have both the dun gene and a sooty gene, or even two of them. The sooty gene puts back black that the dun gene removes, or that is my theory since there is very little known about the sooty gene.

Keeper's skinny dorsal is definately a dorsal, reminds me much of Wickee's, Her dorsal is not that deep dark black wide stripe either. But her mane, tail and short socks are black.
