Thanks for posting the pics, Angel. They were taken at 4 days old. He is 2 weeks today and doing well. There has been much improvement in all areas of his development. His front pasterns look completely normal now, and his hinds are improving. He has a great zest for life!

He's really cute Kim, glad he's doing so well. If you ever decided to do the spare bedroom in red dun he would fit right in. But he'll be big soon enough. That's a nice looking mare!

I love his mom's tail draped over his neck and forehead, like he's saying this is what I'll have when I grow up!

I was so happy to check in and see this good news update Sam is looking good and it is great to see him out on a pasture. I hope his breathing has calmed and he has got a chance to play as well

Kim tell us more, who is the dam and sire? Did Sam decide to be grulla?

Dianne, Sam will be red dun. I think Fuego is the sire, but will need to DNA test to be sure. The pregnancy was an oops that happened last summer while I was away and had someone else taking care of the horses. I was told that the filly had gotten out, but was not told she had gotten out with one of the stallions, so had no idea. She was a yearling then ( exactly, as it was her first birthday I was away ), and was 22 months old when she gave birth to Sam. The filly is a full sister to Kody, so also carries a red gene from her dam Savannah. Sam is still a little wobbly on his front, but getting better all the time. My farrier thinks he will straighten out just fine. At this time we plan on keeping Sam, as a companion horse or possibly a light riding gelding. What happens with his breathing as he matures will dictate how much he can do.
