Hi Dara:
Speaking solely for the CKMR, your filly would qualify as a partial blood because she has non Kiger blood in her. I realize that you are not in Canada and probably wouldn't want to register your girl with the CKMR, but I thought I would answer your question to help you understand what position the CKMR takes with your situation.

Welcome Jason!! I understand all this registry stuff is frustrating - but just try to look past all that and enjoy your horse. That's the most important thing - the horse. Kiger's are such great horse's and they are the ones that keep people coming back, not the registries and feuding.

dara... my Wickee is from a 1/2 Kiger mare and full Kiger stallion. Yet is registered 1/2 Kiger or part blood because she is not full Kiger. That has been the biggest issue with the registries staying true to the fact of whether or not your horse is a full Kiger Mustang and registering your horse so.

Well said Fantasy, I agree that regardless of how others feel, a true registry MUST be honest and forthcoming. That aside, I would like to welcome Jason to this board. We have a great bunch of people here which makes for some great topics and conversations. It's a wonderful way to learn about Kigers.

THANKS FOR THE GREETINGS. I THINK STANDARDS SHOULD BE SET AND STUCK WITH. BUT THATS JUST MY TWO CENTS.
HORSE REGISTRIES HAVE REQUIREMENTS SET FOR A REASON AND THIS IS TO KEEP TO THE BREED STANDARD. I THINK IT WOULD BE NICE IF THE BOARD MEMBERS OF ALL THESE REGISTRIES WOULD PULL TOGETHER RATHER THAN APART. THERE IS ALWAYS FEUDING (EX: THOROUGHBRED ASSOC) BUT WE HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER TO GET THROUGH IT.

Dara, Most registries record any horse not pure but with at least half of the breed's blood as a halfbred. The pedigrees will reveal just how much is actually there. It might be easier to think of halfbreds as partbreds.
ctxkiger, Have you posted info and photos of your kigers? If not, I'd love to see them! And welcome!

That is where the problem lies ctxkigers no one can agree on the standards. I am just as guilty as the next guy. I have my very own opinion on what I consider to be a Kiger Mustang and register my horses with the registry that fits closest to my standards.

ctxkigers, There are 5 registries, 1. The Canadian Kiger Mustang Registry www.canadiankiger.com The CKMR has no inspection process, it bases it's eligibility on purity of lineage proven by parent varified DNA. All Kigers must be traceable back to the freeze branded Kigers recognized by the BLM. 2. The American Kiger Horse Registry www.uskigers.comThe AKHR has no inspection. It has been referred to as a paper registry but does verify bloodlines in a number of ways. One way is the ability to trace the ancestors back to the freeze branded Kigers recognized by the BLM 3. The Kiger Horse Association & Registry www.kigerhorse.org/There is an inspection along with different categories based on color as well as a few other issues. 4. The Steens Mountain Kiger Registry www.kigers.com/smkr/ It has no inspection process and registers Kigers based on bloodlines. 5. The Kiger Mesteno Association www.kigermustangs.org/reg/index.phpThe KMA has an inspection process and registers horses in different categories similar to KHAR.Now before someone jumps down my throat please understand that this is a very basic description. I am NOT looking to start a war, I am merely trying to state which registries use the inspection process and which base purity on lineage. I have included the links to each registries site so that anyone interested can do further research on the inner works and policies of each one. I hope this helps.

Has anyone received any registrations from SMKR in the last 3 months? I submitted several last December and have asked a couple times to get them but they haven't come yet.

I have considered multi-registering my horses, but not with multiple Kiger registries. They can be registered with color registeries like the ABRA or IBHA. The only reason for registering them would be to make them eligible for participation in shows/events held by those registries. Before considering registering your Kiger in multi' Kiger registeries make sure to do your research and find out who allows double registering and with who.

When we purchased our first four Kigers, we got two from Rick Littleton of the SMKR that came without papers and two from the Clay Bank Ranch that had both registration papers as well as DNA parent verification.
Our stallion, Shelby and a mare Bit O Honey are double registered with the SMKR and the CKMR. Saleen is registered with the CKMR as a partial blood and Ginger is deceased.
We recently imported two more mares from the Clay Bank ranch which came with SMKR papers as well as DNA so they are double registered but all our foals are registered strictly with the CKMR.
If we were to register our Kigers with an entity other than the CKMR, it would more than likely be with a color registry (eg: Buckskin Association) or performance association (eg: Sport Horse). Personally I don't see an advantage to multiple Kiger Registries. I do however see a benefit to registering them with outside registries depending on their potential.

Nola:
I completely agree!!! I decided quit some time ago to stop worrying about the politics and focus that energy on promoting and developing the CKMR. It might take me another 20 years to do what I have planned but it is a lot more fun not to mention productive than sweating the "other" stuff!
