Hi all-- My trainer asked me to help her out-- a friend of hers who breeds Thoroughbred/Connemara crosses for jumping is looking for a broke kiger for endurance/trail riding. I know broke kigers aren't always easy to find--so I thought I'd ask here if anyone knows of any or better yet some breeders who might have a few options for her. According to my trainer this person is a very experienced rider, but I believe is wanting to hit some big rides pretty quick--so not looking for a project horse. She lives in New Hampshire, btw. I imagine she's willing to transport. Whatever y'all can pass along would be appreciated. Thanks! ~Cindy P.S. My broke kiger and I went on our first unsupervised trail ride this past weekend--did awesome. EVen passed the very scary manhole cover with minimal encourgaement--of course I ended up smelling a bit like Christmas because Lazzy hugged the evergreens.

Cindy, what's her price range? They're a little easier to find in WA/OR, but not always well broke (rusty, you could say....several used for trail horses but not always consistently.) Would she be willing to pay someone to put a little time on them?

Does it have to be pure Kiger? We have a 2005 filly that is a partial blood Kiger. She has Mustang 3 generations back on her dams side.

Cindy, Ellen in Michigan had a couple of very nice broke Kigers for sale. Here is Ellens contact info. She posted it for another horse, so I'm sure it's okay to move it here for you. zephyrcreek@yahoo.com or call call 810-614-3498 and leave a message.

Thanks everyone--I'll pass along these and any others that come up. I really don't know all the details of what she's looking for--and I may not have understood correctly--but I believe she is hoping to do an 800 mile ride that will be taking place in about 3 months??--so if I understood correctly the horse really needs to be ready to go and probably already in working condition. I don't think full blood is necessary because my trainer asked if I would consider selling this lady my 3/4 kiger Rain (Um... not a chance! LOL). I'll try to get some more details as to her wish list and price range, in the mean time I'll pass along what I already have. Both horses that have posted pics are gorgeous! I wish I had more room in my own pasture ~Cindy

I was just coming back to say Kevin and Lisa had a guy for sale at a good price 800 miles this summer? That's a lot to ask, and I'm guessing she must be willing to spend a fair amount of money to find a horse who's conditioned and ready to go on a long ride. She may want to broaden her scope just a wee bit (jmho...)

Hi Cindy, I have my coming five year old mare Blackstone's Lady Shiloh who is a 15 hand grulla that I might consider selling to your friend for an endurance horse. I am right next door in Vermont. Shiloh was trained last year and we trail rode her quite a bit last summer. She went out for the first time since November on Tuesday and went well. Here is a link to a photo of Shiloh: www.grovestreet.com/jsp/picview.jsp?album=86368If she is interested she can email me at stctroop @ yahoo.com (minus the spaces) Shirley

800 miles this summer? That's a lot to ask/quote] Agreed--so I may not have understood correctly--the phone was breaking up. (edited to add)--you know--maybe she said "a hundred mile ride" not "eight hundred mile ride"-- I bet that was it... ! I can't imagine anyone jumping into a two-week ride or whatever an 800 mile ride would take... right? I'll try to get more info. I don't know that she is "only" looking at Kigers, either. But if I were going on an 800 mile ride, I'd want a smooth-trotting mustang. ;D

Sounds like the best thing to do is what you said, Cindy, check with your friend. 800 miler coming up in 3 months, more than likely miscomunication due to your phone breaking up. Anyway, even a 100 miler in the next three months with horses that have been lightly ridden or pasture potatoes this winter is really a tall order!
All the horses mentioned look like great prospects. Shiloh and Rocky are fairly close!!
Please keep us posted if your friend ends up with a Kiger. Always love to hear about those performance Kigers out East!

Chinook is well muscled, calm and has a great ground covering walk and smooth trot. He shies in place if at all and was in dressage training until about three weeks ago. He is 15 hands but looks taller, wears a 78 or 80 sheet and is a lot of horse. He seems to enjoy adventure and looks forward to what's around the bend. Like all Kigers he works hard to figure out what you want and give it to you. Pictures at pets.webshots.com/album/52141190khBtth

Hi Kim--
I saw Ellen's add on Equine.com I think and he sounds like exactly what she'd need--and a great price for his experience/training level too-- I passed along all the details on him and the others mentioned--so hopefully a match will be made.
I'll keep ya'll posted and maybe we'll have a new Kiger convert soon!
~Cindy
