Hi guys, I'm not on here much anymore, but I think your friend did contact me this week. I have found homes for a few of my horses already, and it looks like I will be able to keep both Zuni and Rocky. My husband did lose his position at work over a month ago, and after working in R&D for the last 12 years he is now working production on the afternoon shift. Major pay cut, but he is working tons of hours so things have been going much better. We will see how the summer goes, but for now Rocky and Zuni are no longer for sale.
Ellen
PS, thanks for thinking of me

That's fantastic news. There are so very many horses being given away or sold for very low amounts all around where I live, it's heartbreaking to see. You just know these people are backed into a corner and don't have the ability to keep their animals

The lady looking for an endurance horse contacted me, but I don't think my Shiloh would fit the bill and I really don't want to sell her, but felt if I could I should with our crappy economy. The ride is scheduled for August and consists of a three month ride from the border of Utah in Arizona to Mexico with college students and deals with ecology and such. So I told her that Shiloh was not ready for such a ride as she is only what I consider green broke and needs many more miles before such an expedition.

Thanks for the update Shirley! Too bad it wasn't a perfect fit. I understand this woman is very much involved in combining education/leadership skills and horses. I think it is something like Outward Bound but with a horse focus. She is the executive director of the Brown Center: www.brownecenter.com/ She does a lot of leadership seminars and such using horses. Gets some good publicity for it, too--so it would be awesome to bring a Kiger into that world, I'd think they'd be the perfect fit since they are so intune to people. But you're smart not to put Shiloh in the wrong situation for her. I'm hoping the right horse will come along! Please spread the word in case someone might have the right horse and might consider selling it. She's an acomplished horse person and trainer--this isn't some crazy lady just wanting to go on a big ride. She's the real deal ;D

Yes I could tell this lady is the real deal and I certainly did not want to put either her or Shiloh at risk, especially near places like the Grand Canyon!! Yikes. I am just wondering if perhaps she should have started her search earlier though?

What about Andi's Dusty? She keeps saying how he'd be a great endurance horse, and all he needs is a tune-up. He's not a Kiger, but he is a Mustang, and he's broke already. And if I remember right, she was willing to give him away to the right person.

I have no idea how long she's been looking--I only became involved recently because my trainer happened to tell her that she'd been working with these amazing horses and turned out that was what this lady was looking for-but for all I know she has been looking for awhile. With so few Kigers in the world, add in that many Kiger breeders don't regularly maintain web presence and even fewer have broke horses, it is going to be a difficult search for sure.
Like I mentioned earlier--I really don't know if she is only looking at Kigers.
Does anyone know if Vivian from Arizona is still into Kigers--I remember she did a lot of endurance riding?? Her website isn't uptodate and doesn't have contact info.

Bettye Roberts used to be in contact with her, you might want to drop her an email if you need to get in contact with Vivian. If you need Bettye's email you can get it from her web site: wilnet1.com/~okiekigers/ I hope this helps.

She really should also have a horse adapted to that climate. To put a NW horse on a three month trek in that weather would be brutal.
