Amen to that sentiment! I agree 100% I found a picture on Andi Harmon's website that she took of some of the horses at the BLM pens during the November adoption - some Kigers and some not...she has a picture there that I am sure is a mare from Beatty's Butte - Really really long mane and she was running with two other dun mares from Beatty's Butte - very, very typey... really resembles Mesteno (since Beatty's Butte is also where HE came from) equine.wisecomp.com/images/102607WH09.jpg She is so cool!!! I was not impressed with the number of mealy muzzles that I saw... the lack of dun factor, etc. when I was at the adoption in Burns in November. There were a few horses that had good color, but the conformation seems to be changing along with the lack of dun factor. The Kigers would definitely benefit from having the mare (in the above link) or similar horses added back in to the Kiger and Riddle HMA's .... LOL - also in my humble opinion!) (hmmmm the beginnings of more "found" horse issues ? LOL!!! Guess it doesn't matter to me, but if I would have been in the position of adopting more mares to raise babies -- those three dun mares from Beatty's Butte would have been among my top picks even including the kiger mares!! Bred to our Running Shadow - we would have had some FANTASTIC BABIES!!! (Bet I'm going to get into trouble for this one!!! ) Nancy

I think if they don't do something out there on the HMAs, "Kigers" are going to be no different than any other wild mustang. They need go get some more typey blood in there and beattys butte seems to have it. It can't really be 'found blood' since that's where the original horses came from anyway. Don't see why they can't get some fresh blood in there that obviously looks better than a lot of what came off the Kiger ranges.

8216 is an unfortunate shot, I think. Here's another that doesn't leave him looking so bad. I've not got any other photos of the younger guy, but I wouldn't be too worried about him, either. Looks more like he's stretching it out than anything.

ME... well I am waiting to win the lottery at the moment. The drop in the horse market put me out of the breeding business for now and the drop in the house market put the hubby out of business for the last 2 months as well. So winning the lottery would nice...lol ;D

I can understand fantasy, I worked in the 'land title' industry and when the market colapsed so did my job. The sad part of the whole thing is that when the market rebounds, it would still be hard for me to find a job in the industry as many of the title companies are sending all of the recorded records and the research jobs to india. I'm not likely to find a job in my industry.

To get the commercial jobs though he has to pound the pavemant make bids and fight for jobs with everyone else in the same boat.

We can't go adding horses to the Kiger and Riddle. There are cute dun mustangs all over, but they aren't Kigers. I know the Beatte's Butte horses were related in 1977 but that was a long time ago. The genes are still out there in the Kiger herds, we just need to have someone who knows what they are doing to select the horses that go back out. Here is a 2003 version of what was adopted, just for inspiration. She was supposed to go back out but didn't for some reason. I would like to see the horses that were selected over her that year. So lets find a way for Ron Harding to go back to making the selection. LadyRose with Dreamer 2006
