Have you been watching to see who's being bid on? Of course you are! Has your favorite received a bid?
Based on the photos, I'm having a love affair with 8241, and so far he's got the highest bid. The filly who looks like Firecracker has a couple bids as well.
In the non-kiger crowd, I liked the little sorrel/pinto they've got online, and she's gotten a couple of bids. There's a brown gelding, yearling, who was just plumb adorable, but his photos online do him no justice. I'm also captivated by 8360 on account of his flowing mane (clearly a good reason to pick a horse, don't you think?)

I love 8241, and he was one I was considering bidding on, but since others clearly want him, I've convinced myself I don't NEED a 7 year old wild stallion right now. I'm after 8207, but I'm waiting until the end to see how high the bids go. If he gets outrageously high, I probably won't bid. Hay prices around here are killing me, so spending $1000 on another mouth to feed isn't exactly a great idea. I really wish there were better pics of him. The ones the BLM posted are awful. There are no pics of him from the front to see his chest, you can't see all 4 feet clearly to see where his white spots are, and I'd really like to see a pic of him standing or walking instead of running. I really can't get a sense of his personality or a good idea of his conformation. I'm going to call Wendy at the corrals Monday to see what she can tell me about him.

Hey, does anyone happen to have any more pics of 8258? I can't decide if I like him or not....

You just know a good portion of these people bidding on these stallions are doing it with designs on breeding them. They just don't seem breeding quality to me compared to many of the studs currently available to breed to. They'd make great riding horses I'm sure but I don't think they are fantastic additions to the available breeding lineup.

I keep hearing how poor the quality is, but it's probably not going to be any better in 4 or 5 years at the next adoption. I really want to adopt a wild freezebranded one. The best part of a Mustang for me is the gentling and bonding process, and I'm proud to show off that freezebrand. And I probably will breed a stallion if I get one, but maybe only once every other year, if that. There really aren't many Kigers in my neck of the woods anyway. If he really ends up not being breeding quality, I can always train, geld, and sell, then hope for a better one next round up. I guess that's really all I can do for the time being.

I'm with you on wanting the brand!
8258 looks decent enough. A little post hock going on there, but could be his age and growth; those hind legs are looking longer at the moment and he's a bit butt high. He looks to have a better shoulder than a lot of them did, but then he's reaching forward with that front leg, so that skews it a bit. Still, if you like him, go for it. He'll turn out to be a pleasing fellow. Sorry we didn't spend more time taking pics of the colts while we were there.

I love 1890 a little beattys butte filly. She looks very typey to me. Blood like that should be reintroduced to the wild ones on Kiger and Riddle to freshen the blood and get the looks back on the right track. (Just my opinion).

Um...1890? I'm guessing you're talking about one of the dun fillies. I think Beattys Butte turns out some pretty nice horses from what I saw down there.

I was noticing that some of the Betty Buttes horses were looking better than the kigers... Do you think the betty butte's horses have some kiger influence? Im not familiar with the area, and not sure if some stallions from kiger herds could get to betty buttes, but it sure does look like it..

I actually think that pic is of 8207, my other favorite, because 8258 has a white star.

angelsdream, the many of the original horses set free on the kiger hmas came from beattys butte. That's why I think it's a grand idea to set some of these more typey beattys butte horses back into the kiger ranges.
