Xana is doing great! She has had her first adventures out of her pen over the last 2 weeks. It took 30 minutes to convince her to come out the first time and had been easy ever since. She hasn't spooked at anything in the stable yard of in the barn. I've been tying her up and grooming her in the ready area and she's been great for the most part. Most of the time when she feels pressure she steps forward. There have been a few times where she pulled back hard. She broke a lead and decided to try again with the new on as soon as she was retied and broke it too. I think that was more due to how the rope was fastened to the clip (stitched material???). So I tied a knot to fix the rope back to the clip and tied her again. Well now she knew she how to play the game and tried again, but thankfully the rope held. She has tried once more the next night and I hope has now given it up as she hasn't tried since. I turned her loose in the arena and figured she take off. I had to make her leave to get some exercises. She has a HUGE trot on her and was very difficult to get to canter. Unfortunately, i haven't been able to photograph the super trot as my daughter can't get her to do it. She is not that concerned about anything being used to get her to go: whip popping, bottle of rocks shaking, bucket rattling, etc. She willingly went over poles and stepped over foot high jumps. The cars on the road next to the arena didn't seem to phase her. My daughter helps me groom her and can lead her around. Since she has started bagging up, we gave her a shot without any reaction from her (whew!). She is more patient than many domestic horses. She stood still while I gently scraped dirt, etc. from her pasterns for quite a while. Normally when I go out to the stables after work there is one other person out at most. At first I made sure we were alone, but have been bringing her out when my friend is there working with her horse. At first Xana was nervous, but last night she had no concern for what they were doing near her. Oh, and I taught her to lunge. She has been so easy so far...I better go knock on wood. Here are some photos. Oh and I had a couple of questions on coloring: Xana has an inverted black V under her forelock. And she seems to be much more red on top of her nose and fades as id goes up her face. Are these typical? Suzy

Nice pictures! Oh what a good girl, it always amazes me how quickly they learn things and settle in. Looks like the groceries are helping too, they were all so thin. That is quite a trot she has! And such a pretty soft eye. She's a dun with those black legs and the V is called cobwebbing and the face mask is the darker shading on her nose. Is she maybe pregnant too? You guys sound like you are doing great. Can't wait to hear more.

Hi All, The colt I adopted was 8167. He has been donated and will be raffled off at the 2008 KigerFest. Raffle tickets are available now, I believe. I have not had much opportunity to work with him due to work schedule, daylight hours and weather, but by the time KigerFest rolls around in August he will be halterbroke, lead, load, stand for farrier, DNA tested and registered in the KMA. His name is Riddle Mountain Renegade, and he is a very nice colt with good conformation, very nice movement, and has no white markings ( which I myself have no pedjudice against... ) I think this guy is going to turn out quite nice. Yes, Xana is pregnant and I'm guessing due within a month. We are in the process of baby proofing her pen so it won't be able to accidentally roll or crawl out of the pen. She's starting to get a little grumpy & testy, so I'm having to keep my eye on her more when working with her.

Glad to hear Xana is doing well and making such good progress! Today was a big day with Nesa. I have not had time to mess with her much and it has gone a few weeks already since the last time. Today I was working with her in a smaller pen and got her to let me throw the long whip up over her back, then her head. I was quickly able to pass the whip around her head a few times to wrap the string around her neck and put pressure on it until she would look at me. I got her to even step toward me a couple times. She let me rub her all over with the whip end and it did not take too long until I was able to touch her without the whip all over her withers and down her shoulder. She was nice and relaxed about the whole thing. I left the pen and went in a few more times during the evening and walked up and was able to rub her....big day!! I am hoping she will be ready to go the the Fort Worth Horse Expo in September.
