Tiffany, We have adopted 26 mustangs and this it the first problem we have had. I think the rope halter is the problem though. I think form now on we will put the rope halter on just to work them. They learn to lead so much easier with one. Lisa

Those two sure are pretty! Do you have any idea what thier adoption numbers were? I love to compare the adoption pics to the recent pics.

I have always been told rope halters are for training only because they don't break. Breakaway halters for turn out only, so if there is an incident they can get out of it.
Kevin and Lisa, I am really impressed with what you do with your Kigers and the positive way you you share with the rest of us. Very nice horses and work! Thanks, Linda D

Been crazy busy as of late....working on riding Rev and Desi as much as I can plus starting Diva and putting basics on Baila....also have a new horse I bought for lunge lessons that I am working with (I named him Dusty Dinkleman, he's a fun horse!). April is busy busy with Apprentice Week, Open House, then JP comes; colts need to be seperated (like NOW!) and have a two week intensive before going out, mares need to come up, 2 yr. olds turned out...Oh, yeah, babies before and after that! Makes me worn out just to think of it all!
So, needless to say, Nesa has been on a break. Today she got back to work though! She will let me rub on her while her face is in a bucket, but I feel we need to move past that so today I got out my long whip (7 ft. whip w/20 ft. lash). I got her used to swinging it and laying it on the ground - every time she stopped - I stopped. Before long I could lay it over her back, she would run around but again, when she stopped, I took it off. Pretty soon I could throw it up and take it down while she stood still. Then I got to where I could let the lash flip up and down her neck and back and she was calm about it.
I gave her a break and rolled the lash up along the whip then worked on being able to touch her with the end of the whip and scratch her wither area. She began to really relax. I slowly started to walk up the whip and got to touch her once, then she left, but was able to then repeat walking up to her and scratching her with the whip three times in a row without her leaving and we called it a day. Hopefully I will be able to spend some time tonight after chores again.
Will also take some picts....! ;D

Well, for the first time my little adopted weanling Cordero got his feet done by my farrier! And guess what? My farrier said he was one of the best babies he'd ever trimmed....Now I just need to plan for the gelding visit.....He's slowly but surely dropping...And boy am I seeing the little stud colt behaviors... I have put a stop to the nipping (I think)....and he is a good boy...can't wait for dryer weather so we can do much more! I'll post pics when weathers better...the horses are all mud balls here!

Well, two of our projects went to their new home today. Kevin and I are very sad, as we fell in Love with River. On the right.
