I haven't the physical ability to have children due to my own childhood so my pets are my children. It was with huge heart ache, oceans of tears and unbounded love that we had to put one of our kitties to sleep today. My husband and I held him in our arms as he went to sleep. I could feel his body relax beneath my fingers and my cheek. The Lord has him now and may he bless him and keep him and give him the happiness he deserves.

I'm sorry about your sadness over the loss of your kitty. When I have to have an animal put to sleep, I take consolation in knowing that doing so will end his suffering and that it is my final act of respect for him.

I feel your pain. My mom ran over one of my cats just yesterday. I was at school so she took him to the vet. His back legs were broken and he was very old. They ended up having to put him down. I am very sorry for your loss, but our felines are in a better place now.

I took him in to be cremated. I brought a little cedar box with me that I've had since childhood. He will be put in there and at which time his sister passes away, I will put her with him because they have always loved each other so very much.

I am so very sorry for your loss as well. My 24 year old QH gelding was put down today as well. It is very sad to lose something that you are so close to, but I am happy my boy is in a better place now.

I'm sorry for your loss of your quarter horse, I had to put down a mutt horse of mine at that age and it hurt terribly. I guess it hurts terribly no matter what species your child is

Take joy in the memory of all that you shared. What a blessing to be one of your animal children. Your grief will only be for a while. I expect them to be there to greet me, someday. I'm sorry for your losses. Linda D

Our dear cat is fast approaching that too. The neat thing about it is that we've had such great lives with our animals, and they have with us.

I'm sorry about your old friend that you had to put down today. I've been there with ferrets, dogs, and cats but never a horse. I dread even thinking about it! Everybody hug your fur-babies. Linda F

I am so sorry for all of the losses of our dear pets. It's been a hard year. Our pets give us such unconditional love...it leaves a big void when they cross the rainbow bridge. My heart goes out to all that have lost a critter recently. Nancy

we had to put down 2 of our cats they were so old and feeble, my son took them to the vet for me, I could not do it. I know they are running in a field of cat nip feeling good, no longer in pain. I miss them every day but it does get better.so sorry about your loss.

One thing the vet told me that I didn't know before. Kitties tend not to drink enough water. If you get a water dish that has the water fountain in it, (not the things that have the water in a container above and just feed it down by gravity, but a dish that actually circulates the water like a little fountain), it encourages them to drink more. Part of the reason they believe the crystals form is lack of enough water. Male cats have a much smaller exit orifice than do females. So females might also be creating crystals in their urine but they tend to pass without problem. I was also watching a thing on animal planet yesterday where a vet had made a diet for a young linx. One thing that he did was mix some chopped up wheat grass in the food. They stated that helped with the digestion. I'm starting to mix clippings of wheat grass in the kitty's wet food. If the wet food is gummy, I'm mixing some warm water with it also. I'm going to try to greatly increase their water intake and do what I can to help their digestion. I told the vet that I'm feeding the kitties the 'authority' cat food that is all natural with no wheat gluten, soy or corn. He said that was good also as those can also cause some problems. I'm trying to tell everyone everything I have learned so maybe they can avoid what we just went through. Seven years old is way too young to have to say goodbye.
