Seven years is young for a cat. Cats really suffer from kidney issues. I have used the water dish that has the water fountain in it, and it helps.

over 20 years ago we had this wonderful male cat that we took in and had neutered, after we did our vet told us there could be a problem sometime down the road, since he was a pure bred. Well his urinary tract crystallized they ended up removing 1/2 of his thingy and about 2 months later he swelled up and we rushed him back into the vet well all of his urinary tract and insides were crystallized, and he was put to sleep. It was the way it was done, today the procedure is so much better, the last of my Utah Kitties has been neutered now for 5 years, and no problem, plus he is always drinking allot of water, i change their water every day. no matter why or how they pass it is so hard to let go.
