The markings are foal camouflage and will disappear. Storm had it to the max in a kind of cloud pattern. The mini burro is a hoot. They got it too young to really be weaned as it was separated from its dam. They had a 16 hand halter QH mare, 1200#s easy, who decided it was "her" burro. This tiny little burro foal following the great huge mare was a crack up, but it worked. For those of you who wonder what a foal should look like there are a couple things to see in this picture. The distance from her poll to her withers is the same as from her withers to the high point of her hip. The distance from the point of her shoulder to the elbow is the same as from there to the stifle and is the same as the stifle to the line dropped from the point of her butt. I like those things. This will be Chinny and Cedar's last foal. He gets gelded next Thursday so that he can come home to the pasture and keep watch over everyone (he takes that job VERY seriously).

Glad Chinny will be able to live the gelding life now - Im sure he deserves it. He'll be very happy looking over everyone and keeping them in line!!!

Yes, it will be great. I'm a little worried about the process to get there. Will talk to the vet today for more details.

I've only seen one castration, and OUCH! Whew, I felt the pain is all I can say. It was a 4 year old paso fino - all went well, they laid the horse down and did the procedure.

Thought this was a good pic to share - she looks just like her mom - she's getting so big already!

She does look like Cedar. Beautiful gals, both of them. Isn't it amazing how quickly they grow!?

Yes they grow fast - just wish she was growing around me, so I could piddle with her. I can't wait to see how her personality is. It's going to be interesting watching her. Im hoping to pony her some off of Lakota to get her out and used to things once she gets older, I'd say the begining of next year or late this year around December she should be ok to take out.

Your princess was rubbing on a sappy tree today and has sap on one side now. Cedar really produces a lot of milk, her foals grow like a weed and are rather chunky at this age. She's starting to shed out around her eyes now. I'll send more pictures that I took this evening.

It always looks darker when they first start to shed because the hair is short and all the hair around it is lighter. I think she will be lighter than Cedar. She reminds me a lot of Mesa in build at this age.

Are Bella and Mojito (I believe that's sedona's colt's name) getting to know each other? I would love to see them playing...watching babies run and play is so awesome!!
That's a great pic of Cedar and Bella hugging!! Beautiful pic of Cedar, she has such a sweet eye!

Sedona keeps the older foals away, I think she thinks they will play too rough. In another month or two they will all play together. Cedar and Bella were grooming each other just before I took the picture. Everyone who meets Cedar says "what a sweet mare" and its true. She is very mild mannered although she was the lead mare for many years. Interesting, LadyRose went from the bottom to the top and everyone now defers to her when she want a spot to eat. Sedona will always be lowest, although she ate with Chinny all last summer. She's a total doll.

Wow! She reminds me of Lark as a foal. Very similar I think! Beautiful gal, I'm sure it's driving you nuts to not have her home... It'll be here soon though! ;D
