We have four due... Leza, bred to Charro, is due April 22 Joy, bred to Charro, is due April 30 Tasa, bred to Gringo, is due May 2 Mari, bred to Hawk, is due May 11...it looks like Mari will do her three week early thing, so she will most likely foal first. Hawk has been gelded and sold, so this will be his only foal. Pics of the mommas here: ranchobayo.wordpress.com/2012/04/03/countdown-3/Will be happy to see another Dino foal!

It sounds like it will be a stellar year for foals with these breedings!

Darling boy! just amazing for one day old. Too bad we already used Caliente for Calista's red dun filly. There is Kittitas and Klickitat, Kittitas means gravel river bank, Klickitat is the people beyond the mountains. Kaleetan is Chinook for arrow, kind of hard to remember maybe. Calispell or Kalispel is a tribe up here, I don't know the meaning.

He doesn't look it, I know, but I'll be very surprised if he isn't grulla. Calista's foals have all been grulla, black or red dun, unless bred to Bravo, who is zebra dun. It is posible for a red horse to carry a bay gene, but I don't think Calista carries it. Many place names in Washington are Chinook or other tribal names. Skoocum is a common expression still, it means big or powerful. Chuk on the end means river, so there is a Skoocumchuk River, A Pilcuck River etc. Teannaway means a place of fish and berries, Tyee means chief, Quil Ceda means salt water people.

In Greek Mythology, Arkas was the son of Callisto and Zeus. Typical of Greek mythology, though, I'm pretty sure he came to an unfortunate end... Perhaps not the best choice for a name!
