Stacy, I had to literally sit on my hands to not bid on him. I stood at his corral and stared at him for at least an hour and took tons of pictures of him! I'm so glad he's doing well! Give me your email address and I'll send you a few of the best pics I have of him.

I can't believe he is 7 and so easy going! I'd say you got a steal.

It's been too long since anybody posted about how their new Kigers are doing. Darran from the BLM has been out to do the preliminary inspection at my place. My little stallion has an upper respiratory infection. Darran said that several other people had reported the same thing in their new Kigers. I called my vet but he said as long as his appetite and attitude stayed good, let it run it's course. Anybody else going through this? Funny thing, my stallion is next to my new mare. She is totally healthy.

Ruger finally got over the snots and cough. I visited another mare from the adoption and she had it as well. It took Ruger 5 weeks to get over it.

Dusk doesn't seem to have had any respiratory problems - no matter how much she enjoys following me around wiping her nose on my clothes. I've offered her smalls chunks of carrot now and then in her food bin, and they kept disappearing - but then I caught my dog stealing them, and Dusk really couldn't care less. She'd much rather just have hay and a bit of Vitaquine (both of which the dog also tries to steal and eat). She has turned into a fluff ball, and the thicker her winter coat gets, the glossier it gets as well.

stacy- I am soooo amazed right now! I can hardly believe your riding the 7 year old stallion on a trail ride. It feels like it's been only a couple weeks. I knew there was something special about him and I was shocked he went for as little as he did. I remember seeing all the photos of him online with his band of mares and foals. You really have something special

He made me a little nervous when we were taking pictures out on the Kiger HMA in October of 2010! He was so calm and was so close to the car. I kept feeling like I was too close to him when I was out taking pictures of his herd, but he didn't mind a bit! I kept walking away so he'd know I wasn't a threat, but he never got nervous at all. And boy, is he BUILT! Great pick Stacy!

Thanks everyone, I think he is pretty special too. He was easy from day 1. I was challenged by a friend to have him loaded from the corals w/out a halter. So I did. Boy, did I think that was a mistake when I let him out into the 40 foot round pen. But it worked out well, because I knew exactly what he could tolerate and what he couldn't, because if he didn't like it, he would just walk away. (Not that I am recommending anyone else bringing home a blm horse w/out a halter!) He picked up clicker training right away, and I used alfalfa cubes. The rest of his hay wasn't nearly as interesting, so as soon as I could get him to eat an alfalfa cube out of my hand, we were making very fast progress. One of the reasons I picked him was that he was chunky and I could tell that food was important to him. Plus w/the alfalfa cubes, this could be a good portion of his groceries. I wonder if he took to it so fast because he is a stallion, and he spent his whole life trying to figure out HOW to get what he wants-from breeding, to having a band, to where the food and water are. I took him to a lesson w/ my trainer about 10 days ago. I had been climbing all over him, but he couldn't understand why he had to MOVE. I needed help w/ that. When he first stepped out of the trailer and saw all of the other horses, including horses that would trot by the door of the arena, then disappear, then reappear, etc.. I saw more of his eyeballs and nostrils than I had ever seen before. He calmed down quite quickly, and we had a good lesson (mostly of Ruger and trainer getting acquainted, free lunging, etc) the next time I went over there, he stepped out of the trailer and acted like he had been there 100 times before. I could not believe how quickly he adjusted to that. Pretty darn smart. We went there twice and I have also loaded him up in the trailer and hand walked him several times where we ride. I really wanted to post how well he was doing while the on-line auction was going on. I am so impressed with this horse. I also went to visit a nine year old mare from the auction. I could not believe what a nice personality she had. Very curious, willing, and wanting to please. What a nice horse.

Stacy, I've only brought home one with a halter on. I prefer to bring them home without. I love this boy!! I'd love to take a trip down to visit you and him, and also Kay and her mare. Kim
