Julie...welcome to the Board and CONGRATS on that super grulla mare! If I had gone intending to get a mare (I got guilted into buying the older gal!), she would have been my first pick. She looked bad in the corrals and I was sad that it was obvious some folks could not see her for what she really is. Lots of picts please!! I can't wait to see her foal in spring either...
I did not look at the boys much but you picked a good one there too.

Stacey, glad you found your way here. I am sooo excited for you and your boy. That is soooo awesome that you are scratching him already. It is very addicting(38) or is 39 now? Lisa

Thanks to photographer John Wheland, i found out Ruger (full name Kaptain Kigereux) necktag #1123 had a little band. Several of his (John's) pictures show the scar on Ruger's nose. That makes me kind of sad. The mare looks like 8246...same white stocking on right rear (seen from other pics and pics I took) but I am not sure. She had the 3 week old colt. Attachments:

I so-o-o thought he should be released back out. From the first time I saw him on the internet. If any of those studs resembled Mesteno, it was this boy. You've got yourself a gem, Stacy!

We saw this group last October and I took some pictures too. Send me your email and I'll send them to you. Ruger was very calm and was close to the edge of the road but didn't seemed at all alarmed by us. I kept a respectful distance though! One of his mares was the mare foal pair with the new grulla colt, her second in two years.

sbutter, I am so impressed. Is that the mother standing close by. Absoutely beautiful picture. You two look great together. You took so many pictures at the adoption I was hoping to buy some from you. Do you have any pictures of 1183 weanling bay filly pen 3 and 1231 grulla 4 yo on pen 1. Email bellakane154@hotmail.com My horses won't arrive in Mississippi until ?. Congrads to all. It was a fantastic adoption. This was the 1st time I bought a mustang at an adoption. The others were though the internet adoption. This was much better.

I've been reading this board for a while, but never bothered to join. I figured I'd do so now - since I got #1205, the dark bay weanling filly. I may not be able to register her as a Kiger (she shows no sign of any dun factor), but I'll wait and see if anything shows up as she ages - and she's a wonderful little girl regardless. Within two days she could be touched anywhere, even by people she hadn't met before. It wasn't hard to pick a name for her, so she's now Kiger Dusk, aka Dusky Lady. I'm trying to find out any information I can about her dam, #1204, but she wasn't among those that were offered for adoption. I called the Burns BLM and left a message, but haven't heard anything back. Anybody know of any other sources of information? I'm just wondering if she was re-released, what color she is, etc.

Hey zhiral, there are several registries you can use,I think only KMA requires duns only.Plus her brand can be used to identify her as a kiger which by BLM standards is a mustang captured from Riddle or Kiger HMA's.I'd get her registered for her own future's protection. There are many of us Non-'dun kiger owners out here and our horses deserve to be recognised as the special critters they are !

courtney A - I am actually not in any of the photos I posted, just the photographer I will have to look through my pics to see if I have your two in there. In the next day or two I will get in touch with you. zhiaral I believe I found pictures of your filly and her mother about a week after they were gathered. From what it looks like, the mare is a silver grulla. I need to have my other computer so I can zoom in on the neck tag to be sure. Here is the picture I am looking at---> s451.photobucket.com/albums/qq234/sbutter061789/BLM%20Kiger/?action=view¤t=035.jpgIf it asks for a password, the password is "Ginger"

Congrats to everyone who adopted this past weekend. Alot of diamonds in those corrals! While I did not adopt, I had the perfect getaway long weekend and am totally jealous of those that did adopt. Such a journey ahead of you!
Courtney, it was great meeting a fellow Pennsylvanian in OR. I do alot of riding at Moraine State Park in Butler, PA. The park has miles of groomed bridle paths that are trail riding heaven. It's only about 2 hours from you. We really need to hook up and ride. If you have a place your way, I could haul there too, as it's less than 3 hrs from me. Email or PM me and we'll get together.
Zhiral, I was able to zoom in Sarah's picture. Yes, that is your weanling filly, tag 1205, with her grulla momma in the picture! She is really nice. There were several really nice bays this go around. In fact, I would have picked most of the bays over the duns as far as conformation goes. The KMA does recognize bays as far as I know. The Steens Mountain Kiger Registry registers any color as long as it originates from either the Kiger or Riddle HMAs. You can find contact information by searching the web or you can PM me. There are other registries too but I am unfamiliar with their specific requirements. Bottom line is .... the fact that she is bay certainly doesn't make her less of a Kiger!

Hi all, I didn't have to adopt a Kiger this year because I just bought Riddle Mountain Renegade, the '07 raffle horse, from Nina on September 11th. I had to find a new spot for Doolie, my old quarter horse who couldn't tackle our steep hills anymore, and that left an opening for another Kiger to keep Banner company. Nina physically was having a hard time keeping up with a four year old, so I'm taking over where she left off. Nina had been calling him Rene, but I decided he needed a fresh start and a new name to go with it, so now he's Rio to me. I guess it's true. You can't have just one Kiger! Here's Rio in a clinic with my awesome trainer, Steve Boyles.
