Please read because this is what happened to me. I would like to warn everyone who wants to register there horse with Steens Mountain Kiger Registery. I Called up steens mountain kiger horse registry to validate that they were taking on horse registrations... rick the owner said yes. So I called him after I filled the information out and sent him the paperwork and check on 6/17/11. He told me I had an option to email or mail the photos. I emailed them. I told him that they were emailed and he made a verbal conformation that they were received. My check was deposited 6/24/11 in the amount of $30.I waited for my certificate. I did not receive any information or certificate about a week or two later. So I called steens mountain kiger registry and talked to rick. He said he received the paperwork and has had some computer issues to print off the certificate. I asked him when I should call and check up on the certificate. Rick said give him 3 weeks. So on 8/05/11 I called and asked where the certificate is. Rick said he has been busy and doesn't know when I will get the certificate. I told him about my check that he deposited and he said, oh well that my check was cashed and that I am not getting a certificate. This is what happen to me and I want people to know what might happen to them. I am not mad....I just dont put up with people taking money. Please take this into consideration....I just want to give you a heads up.Thank you

Over the course of the years on message boards, people have had complaints about length of time to get papers from just about every registry I can think of. I wouldn't get too upset, papers seem to come eventually. Karen

It typically takes months to get the papers. These registries are not big business with staff. I still think it is a lousy way to run a registry.
Welcome. Please share your Kigers, photos, info, etc.

I think her point is that after she confronted him, she was told she was NOT going to get them.

I feel bad for you...I really do. I was lucky enough to get all my horses registered with SMKR early on for what it is worth and frankly that ain't much, as one day the registry won't exist. Kiger Mustang registries are one thing I sure don't miss, sense I stopped breeding.

I would agree it won't exist at some point and none of the records will be available either. As one client of mine said who recently talked to them and decided not to register because it sounded to much like a "one man band".

Again, this will most likely be unpopular but so be it. Michelle, I really don't think anyone missed the point. What is happening is the same old thing and yet the Kiger breed and the (name the US registry) continues on unchanged. It is no secrect that the SMKR orginated and remains a "one man band". It is also no secret that the other registries have equal yet different complaints. If you would like particulars please feel free to contact me privately as I will not propel this stupid registry debate of likes and dislikes. It's been going on for years and most likely will for years to come.
The most important thing for the newcomers to the breed to realize is that there is not and may never be total unity. Is that a bad thing? No, not necessarily. Choose the registry that best suits you and your horse. Don't belittle or second guess the other registries. At the end of the day, know that your Kiger really doesn't care!

Our intention is not to belittle anyone.....this is pure truthful fact on what happened....now the owner called me last night and he said he is going to give me my money back. Everyboy has there opinions I am just telling you what happen to me. You all can make an desicion on what you want to do. I am just laying out what happened to me and nothing more. Sorry, I disagree. IMHO both comments are nothing more than unjustified emotions. Why would you surmiss that none of the records will be available either? Do you have first hand information on this Michelle? Just curious because every dealing I have had with the registry shows commitment to the registry and the breed. Message board posts or lack thereof should not be the sole basis. Again, JMHO.
The sole owner & founder of the SMKR, Rick Littleton, while obviously absent from message boards has told me in private conversation that the registry will go on. Again, since private information is not readily posted on message boards, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that there is family behind the "one man band".
Hopefully this will put to rest some of the "internet" theories and reassure newbies. This type of banter does nothing for the Kiger.

Thanks for sharing Karen...it is easy to believe second hand information.

Alls well that ends well...I hope your right Karen, that the SMKR will continue to thrive. If I had to pick a registry I will still go with Rick, just because I like him. I know hard to tell from my last comment, but we live right around the corner from each other and your right emotions come into play when us old timers start talking registration matters. They all got pros and cons.

Yes, second hand information and the internet can often sensationalize things.

My horse is registered in both KMA and SMKR, both registries have good and bad points. One of the good of Rick's registry is that if you have a problem you call him and talk it out. The down part of that is that he is busy with other business and sometimes has trouble keeping up. Since I don't breed any more I haven't kept up with KMA. I would think that any registry would be smart to occasionally send information on what it is doing once in a while or at least a postcard to people who have horses in it. I know both the AQHA and APHA both send me info on a regular basis even if my membership lapses. I dropped my membership a number of years ago due to infighting that I didn't like in KMA and have not heard from them since. Interesting. I am not knocking the KMA as I have not had any dealings with them recently and have no idea what their policy is now.
