If everyone took, we have six due. Charro has four: three purebreds, Mari, Leza and Nesa plus our Quarter Horse mare, Morgan. Gringo has two: Tasa and Chilli. The only one I am not sure about is Nesa...she got antsy the last two days of breeding. Leza looks settled so far - I can only hope!
We need some boys next year! Everyone do the colt dance!!

Fingers crossed for you nrly! It'll be years before I decide to breed my mare, but I'm so happy with little Picaro that the TBxKiger may be the way I go with her.

Well, it isn't a Kiger, but my mare is due next year! Here she is with her 05 filly (that was amazingly born on 5/5/05 haha) and sire Pueblo: Foal will be a purebred Spanish type Sulphur. Victoria is due in May

Barbhorses -They're both so beautiful! What will be your most likely color outcome with Victoria being grullow and Pueblo being dun? Will you get to keep the foal? I know my ignorance is showing, but I don't see a whole lot of difference in the Kigers and Sulphurs - could you explain? What was Victoria's 05 filly crossed from?
equineimagined - do you have pics posted of your little Picaro

Victoria has only had grulla colored foals so far. However, if Pueblo throws the agouti gene (bay gene) then the foal will be a zebra dun.
Kigers and Sulphurs differ very much genetically, as well as conformationally, temperament, movement, history, and sometimes size as well. Just continue to do research and ask questions. Send me an email with questions that you may have I would be more than happy to help you.
Victoria's 05 filly's sire was a very average looking bay Sulphur stallion (now gelding). I didn't know enough at the time to really see type or good conformation. I thought I knew enough, but looking back, I really knew very little! If I had to do it over again I wouldn't have bred Victoria to the stallion. As he matured he grew into looking more like a Nevada Mustang. So, clearly he was crossed and was not a Spanish type Sulphur. There are genetically proven different group types on the Sulphur HMA. So, it isn't like the Kiger where all horses that are caught off of the Riddle or Kiger HMA can all be considered the same breed. There are Spanish type, mixed, and non-Spanish from the Sulphur HMA. The horses to the very far south of the Sulphur HMA doesn't even come in the dun factor dilution (it is hard to get a Spanish type Sulphur that doesn't have stripes!) and look more like wild draft horses. Of course along with different genetics is different type as well.

Hi Michelle, Yes! I am VERY excited about this foal! My sister has FINALLY caught the horse bug and is slowly seeping into her wiring so she has claimed this foal for herself and wants to buy it off me next year. lol I caught her last night shopping around at Dover Saddlery and then she started asking me what she needs to buy for the baby. She now is really wanting to take riding lessons and become very well versed in everything horse so that by the time the baby is ready to ride that she wont be a total newb! Thankfully, we have a very competent trainer at the barn to help her with foal training (as well as myself being there to help her). I may have some other interested persons in future breedings as well. If everything goes well, I plan on breeding her to a grullo stallion that was one of three nice looking Sulphurs (literally looked like transplants compared to the other horses there) from the 03 adoption next year. My next horse I want from Victoria. The cross of Pueblo will make up for Victoria's faults. I think that the resulting cross will be very typey in conformation, movement, and temperament. The Chance lined horses always seem to pass on this warhorse type temperament. Very willing to obey, but VERY much a 'let us charge to victory' type of mentality. I was only able to get Pueblo to slightly SHY at a box of fiercely rattling Nerds I was shaking at him one time! Victoria has always passed on nice straight legs, her very sweet temperament, and in a grulla package. I am hoping she spices it up this time and gives me a zebra dun! haha Question: I am not exactly a horse breeder (although I feel that that is one of my life's calling! Anyone have some land and a vet office that is nearby?? lol I am a registered vet tech.), so I am not sure exactly what is going on here. Here is what is happening: (mind you I body shave Victoria this year as she was sweating in the CA "winter") Victoria is confirmed 4 1/2 months along. She is also my riding horse. This has happened about three times so far and I don't know what exactly is going on. Every time I go to ride her she lasts fine about 5 - 10 minutes and then she starts to go after my left leg (never my right). It doesn't matter that I am very light in my aids and that I am not bouncing on her sides, she always goes after my leg. I think it is a bit from trying to bully me (was really bad yesterday! She started going after my leg more fiercely which I promptly punch her in the neck or kicked her in the chops as she was coming after my leg. She is very sensitive mare and so started to chomp and not come after my leg), but then when I got off of her yesterday she was twitching her whole side and was STILL chomping on the left side! People at the barn thought that maybe this baby is just extra feisty (would fit the stallion!) and even though it is only the size of a cantaloupe it is already causing her discomfort. I know it isn't the saddle as I had it fit to her and even had the chiropractor come out earlier this year and she said that my Aussie saddle was fine, but to have my dressage saddle stuffed a bit more in the back (which I haven't been using my dressage saddle ever since she told me that). Is it possible that the saddle is just putting more pressure and making the baby act up more? I am thinking that if it is that uncomfortable to ride that maybe I will just put her in a surcingle and dive more into classical dressage long reining. Any suggestions or ideas as to what is going on? Here she is in her Aussie saddle:

If she has never done this before, my guess is she is uncomfortable. She is entering her second trimester, so the foal could be pressing somewhere that annoys her more with the saddle/rider. Or, she could just be extra sensitive and cranky!

The last foal that she had (the '05 filly) never even really showed until she was about 8-9 months along. But this baby will put itself on a side where she looks flat on one side and huge on the other (when looking at her from behind). I was just figuring that she looked so far along just because this is her fifth baby, but now I am thinking that her baby just must be really feisty! She never acted this way with the '05 filly when she was carrying her. Albeit, I also stopped riding her when she was pregnant. But I never could really tell that that baby really bothered her much until 2 months before she was due. The filly (Doña Alabanza) is also a rather calm mare and not feisty (she just had her first baby this year whom is also a Sulphur's Chance grand colt although the colt is 3/4 Sulphur and 1/4 SM. And if you want to get anal 1/2 Spanish type Sulphur 1/4 mixed Sulphur and 1/4 SM). LOVE his markings and got that GORGEOUS Sulphur head and ears!! Nice "D" shaped hip, BEAUTIFUL withers (already!!) with a nice short back. He got a low neck tie in from the Spanish Mustang. Here is a link to him: www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=164023446957492&set=a.164021840290986.45197.100000495136393&If you keep going in the pic line up, the next horse is a 3/4 SM 1/4 Sulphur colt, pic after the kid is again Victoria's grand colt, and the next pic I am guessing is her 1/2 Kiger 1/4 Sulphur 1/4 SM colt. he looks like he is likely half Kiger.

I think I might just long rein her. Oh well!

If the whole side was twitching then something was really bothering her. Might be a pinched nerve. It might be worth having a chiropractor look at her again with the baby unbalancing her. It might be good to check that the foal has settled properly in the womb since it is so one sided this early.

I recall you have mentioned Victoria's faults before, and I've looked at all of the pictures I could find, and videos - what is the fault? She looks stunningly gorgeous to me...
