This morning Mari hadn't come up for feeding and I found her already passed by the barn. I have no idea what happened--she'd been keeping to herself a bit lately because the flies had been picking on her. But nothing to really indicate a problem. She'd had a tough life--breaking her shoulder in the wild and then a string of bad adopters/trainers. We'd come so far with her and every second I was with her, I was in awe of just how special a spirit she was. As sad as I am for myself, I know that she is happy and free. And just shortly after I'd found her, through my tears I looked up and saw these clouds directly over where her body was. They look just like her-my beautiful angel, so wild and so free. ~Cindy

I am so sorry to hear about Mari, but I am glad that she has had you as an owner to live out her days with. She will definitely be missed.

I am sorry for your loss. Oh those clouds just bring tears to my eyes, how very special indeed to see. Mari was a beautiful mare ever grateful, that she was under your care. As I am sure you are grateful for the memories and joy she brought to your herd.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mari. At least she had someone so caring to spend the rest of her life with. She was indeed a very special soul.

Sorry to hear that Cindy. I know how hard that must be - you helped her in so many ways. I'm sure she was very happy to have found you.

Sniff...
I'm so sorry, honey. How difficult that must have been, but how wonderful to see her up there in the clouds, running free once more.

Cindy, You fought so hard for Mari, I know the loss must be great. You gave her the love and respect that all of God's creatures deserve. God gave you a sign, that she is in His care. Let it help to bring healing to you now. God Bless, Linda D

Hey Cindy, No words can really comfort, but to have been part of her life was a wonderful thing. She was a brave and strong spirit who was so lucky to have you.

Thank you, everyone. Sometimes non-horse folks just don't understand, but I know everyone here does.
We buried her yesterday afternoon with an apple, a handful of peppermints, and some wild flowers.
A part of me is devastated and always will be. She didn't let very many people close-I can count them on one hand and still have room for more. But each of us had been touched so deeply by her that we'll never be the same.
I took some of her mane and will have something special made. It's gonna take time for me to stop hurting, but I am so very happy for her.

It's always more painful for those of us left behind, she is now in a place where there is no pain, no fear, just unmatched love and comfort. She touched your life and you touched hers in ways and depths only you and she can fully understand. Now she's home and as you can see through the clouds, she is still looking upon you with her loving presence.

Dear Cindy,
You have my deepest sympathies. Nothing can be worse than losing a good friend, especially with no warning. Please allow me to join in on all the previous thoughts and condolences. Your kindness to this lovely mare will not be overlooked in the hereafter.

So very sorry. I know how much it hurts and what a hole is left in the heart. =( It still hits me at the odd moment the Lyric is really gone. I was lucky to have the rest of the herd depending on me...and they have an uncanny sense when I'm sad and are always doing something goofy that gets me laughing again. Can't beat horse hugs when your feeling down....and the ever present butt being presented for a good scratch!
I was sent some great sites that do horse hair pottery if you might be interested in those. And my friend had a braided bracelet made for her when she lost her old riding horse. Luckily the vet got hair for me as after Lyric was put down, they shooshed me out of there for the post mortem and moving her from the stall. I think they must have scalped her.... it looks like I have the whole tail and most of her mane.
Take care Christine

I'm so sorry Cindy. I too, lost an old friend back in '94 and it still brings tears to my eyes. But I am ever thankful to her, because she sent me on the trail where I found the Kigers.
Neat clouds, glad you got a picture.

being pretty new to the board, i dont know all of the history but my heart still breaks for you. It sounds like she was very special and had been through alot. And was very lucky to have crossed paths with you. Although I am sure that you are the one that feels lucky to have had her in your life. That seems to be the magic of these amazing horses. She looks so much like my Nocona she could have been his mom. I believe those clouds were a sign for you...look how big and stretched out she is..her spirit is soaring, full gallop with no pain, no worries. Truely beautiful. A girl in our 4-H group lost a mare in a trailer accident and sent her tail to a lady in Canada who made it into a amazing belt, complete with her name woven in with the pattern. It was gorgeous. The girl wears it all the time. Let me know if you would like me to get the lady's info.
