Here is Smokey, a wild caught grulla gelding with a lot of flash. Reg with KMA. 15.1H, around 950lbs. I have had him since winter and have put a lil over 45 days training on him under saddle. I'm going to try and paint an accurate picture of him: Smokey is a calm and laid back horse, Id rate him a 4 unless he is unsure of something and then it is more like a 7. This big pretty boy is guaranteed to turn some heads! He is still a colt starting project right now but once he "gets it" he is going to be a very nice horse!! Smokey is nice to ride; he has a nice ground covering walk, is very light in the hackamore and is not easily spooked. I do not say he is green broke yet because it still takes a good work out on the ground before he is ready to ride. He hasnt bucked with me in the saddle and I know he doesnt want to but I also know he can. He has had the chance numerous times when the dog chased the cat into the corral right behind his tail, birds tried to land on us or the flag laying on the ground outside the corral suddenly catches a breeze and comes alive. He just spookes in place and lets me decide whether we need to be worried or not. I love that in a horse! He is at the point where he needs the miles under saddle and then he will settle in and be the horse of your dreams. $2000 OBO, May Consider Trade/Partial Trade.

Very cute Mustang Yadao! Hey, I am back in Cali at the moment. You still up north? I am staying with my sister in Carlsbad which is in San Diego. One more quarter then I am done with school and can move back home!! My sister wants a horse to ride. I know of a very nice purebred Spanish Sulphur mare up north in WA that is trained to ride. Maybe you could put a refresher course on her before I bring her down?

You know this big guy really caught my eye at the adoption. I really thought he would make a nice riding horse and get the job done. I wish I was in the market for just such a horse, but I am full up. I will certianly put the word out though. Give him a few years and miles, he is sure to impress.

How long are you going to be in Carlsbad? You're just minutes away from me! I'm going to be out of town tomorrow through Saturday late afternoon to evening but I'll be home Sunday, maybe we can meet?

Kim, that sounds good. Be nice to have another spanish horse to play with. I'll email you. My brother just bought a 8 yr half spanish mustang half qh gelding that had come out of texas. We worked him today. Needs a good tune but looks to be a pretty nice horse. I also just started my colt Fierro under saddle this week. That is the big reason why Smokey is on the market, I only want one colt project of my own at a time and Fierro has always been "it" for me. The rest of my time is reserverd for client horses. Thanks for the nice comments folks. If you or know anyone who thinks they might be interested let me know. I am willing to work a nice deal to the right home.

Sure! Send me an email and I will give you my number. Do you know if I could ride your Kiger? Been around many Kigers, just never ridden one.

Yes, Im sure you could ride him once he was ready to be ridden. Thats his deal, it takes him some time to be ready for mounting. If you work with him till he is soft and ready to ride then you can step up and ride him without incident. He needs to be taken to the bottom of the mountian, worked till ready to ride and then get on and ride all day. I haven't done it yet because its best if there is somebody to ride with us for that first big ride. Thats what both he and I have been waiting for. After one or two of those I think he will be fine. Hopefully this week!

Update, yesterday I rode Smokey in one of our fields that has a lot of obstacles in it to play with. My brother rode his half Spanish Mustang/QH too. We rode for a couple hours maybe and had a lot of fun. Mr kiger did great, looks like he had been doing it for a long time. I caused him to spook once and he took off but that was my fault. He was a cool guy and I was really happy with him.

NEWS FLASH:
Price reduced to $1500, must sell. My poor puppy needs vet attention (broken leg) and this boy is financing it.
Also, now being worked in a snaffle bit as well. Doing good.

I am so sorry Yadao! I wish I could help you with buying this horse or donating, but I am still a college student paying for my own horse and living.
Good luck!

[SOLD
Smokey found his new home yesterday and now lives in the foothills out of Sacramento. The proud new owner is a wonderful fit for him as she has gentled and trained a couple mustangs of her own and also worked at a Kiger ranch in the past. She has been looking for "her" horse and we both think she's found him! He has new buddies in the pasture, lotsa access to trails and cows to chase as well. It dont get much better than that.
