I took Lazzy to a small, local breed expo on Saturday--it was in conjunction with a horse garage sale hosted by my trail riding group. As soon as the garage sale goers started showing up, I was being hounded by people asking if she was for sale. I finally put a sign up that said "Kiger Mustang--NOT for sale"--she still got tons of attention! When I led her to the arena--people called out--how much for that horse? And I replied "Not even 3 million dollars!" LOL-- seemed a lot of people agreed that they wouldn't sell her either. :-) Even the QH girls selling old show stuff in the booth next to us wanted to know what she was and were in awe over her neck and throat latch?? LOL.
Anyway, we got to show our horses twice--once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Lazzy was a little tentative in the first one, not liking being alone in the big arena. But did fine, and the second time she and I felt comfortable enough to trot around, showing off her no-bounce trot. She was the only horse to go clean over this cross rail jump that we were using to demonstrate our horses trail abilities. :-) And then she really cracked everyone up when she passed by the newspaper lady taking photos and stopped and posed. Such a diva! I'm hoping to find that photograph in the paper! I wish I took some photos, but as always, I was too rushed with everything else. Here are some far off shots of us, though.
My trainer's teenage assistant actually rode Lazzy around all the garage sale booths bareback! And Lazzy looked as calm as could be.
Then on Sunday I took both her and Rain to a cow sorting clinic. Rain audited from the rail, but Lazzy got in there with the cows. She did awesome and we had a lot of fun. I also met Bill Lopez, who had just gotten his mustang for the Mustang Makeover in Ft. Worth two days before. I talked with him for awhile, but had no idea that he'd finaled in the 2007 event (his first real mustang experience) and then won the Makeover Magic (?), a shorter event, this past January. Very impressive!
Then to round out the great weekend, I had my new farrier out on Monday and Mari did amazing. We just slowed everything down, and this guy had great energy and communication with her--she didn't even breath hard once. It was wonderful!
P.S.--I made about $1000 at the garage sale and while a chunk of that was two saddles, most was $1-$15 items. Old halters, lead ropes, some dog kennels and stuff-- were the quick sellers. I had no idea my junk would net me so much. And it was really nice selling someone their first saddle or a gift for their dad. Very rewarding, and made me remember my first saddles or first nice bridle. So if you belong to a big group--consider getting everyone together at your local round up club for a horsey garage sale day--it really was a success.
