Hey Gang We have a mare from the Browning Montana Rescue off the Blackfeet Reservation that needs a new home. She has all the features of a Kiger and is apparently from Kiger stock. She is gorgeous. Intelligent, and has a beautiful foal on her side. Problem is she has proven to be extremely hard to handle. She has almost gone over a 6 foot fence and has been extremely resistant to training. She is very aggressive being apart from the herd and since the baby she has gotten dangerous. We are looking for a home who has handle issues like hers or has the facilities that can house her. Personally she would make a great broodmare and be happiest turned out on a large acerage. I cannot house her on my farm due to liability with my boarders and the fact that she can clear my fences. If someone would be interested in her please let me know. I am willing to transfer ownership to them and they can have her shipped. I also can bring her out if gas money is provided. I had planned on keeping the foal but that can be discussed due to not wanting to add more pressure on the mare or foal. I know this sounds bad, but I just have exhausted my sources and my trainer wants her off the property due to liabilities and her being 'dangerous'. I believe she can be tamed but right now I am not capable of undertaking another project due to being injured a few weeks ago and she needs to be moved soon. Please let me know if anyone is interested.

I have not. I will say if she has the space she is more than welcome to have her. She can clear our six foot fencing and we don't have a herd that she can run with to keep her occupied. She currently is stalled with an access to a small turnout paddock but I would like to see her have something more than this. The trainer had to make it smaller due to her being able to jump a normal size pen. Not to scare off potentials, but this mare has been extremely aggressive with humans and has already injured two. We are looking for a sanctuary type situation that will allow her room to run. She was aggressive and resistant before she foaled and now having had the foal she is down right dangerous. Which I know is a protective nature, but she creates a major liability on our property. perhaps once we wean the foal she will become somewhat manageable that is why I would like to see someone take her and see what they can do. She by far has been the most aggressive and resistant mustang I have ever own.

Westery, If your mare came from the reservation in Montana, likelihood is she isn't a Kiger. "Kiger" characteristics are not entirely unique to the breed. Perhaps she is more closely related to the Pryor horses, which are found in Montana/Wyoming. At any rate I wish you luck in placing her. I do believe there is a wild horse sanctuary in South Dakota.

The Black Hills Rez. people had at one time about 10 or more years ago had Sulphurs. About 6 months or so ago, they had been relieved of 100 SMR Spanish Mustangs due to them not being properly taken cared of. Several horses died due to starvation.
So, who knows what the breeding is of this mare. She could be an SMR or SMR/Sulphur cross or a Sulphur.
Do you have pictures of this mare?
The wild horse sanctuary in SD has a herd of Sulphur, SMR, and Kiger mares with the lead stallion being a Sulphur( though not proven. He is ineligible for any of the Sulphur registries due to his sketchy background. This stallion was the product of the Black Hills Rez. breeding program though) named Don Juan. The sire of the stallion is owned by Neda Demayo of Return to Freedom. His name is Chief and is Neda's most favorite horse on her property. Though, his type is not what a Spanish Sulphur enthusiast would desire most, he is quite impressive in person despite that.

She is one of the mares rescued from the Black Hills. Her breeding is sketchy as well. We were told she may have come from kiger breeders and released with this herd. I changed the topic heading. At any rate, she needs to be placed with someone who can deal with her aggressive nature. Thank you for the information. She is extremely beautiful and I am trying to get better pics of her. She is currently in TN at the trainers with the foal. I am hoping to pick the foal up next week. We have called the SD rescue and have never heard back from them That would be the perfect situation, if we could get her there.

I know a lady from Colorado who I sold a horse to, she took two of her Kiger mares to the sancuary in South Dakota because they were too much for her to handle.

She will be going to the SD sanctuary. She is a wild child I will say.
