For folks interested in mustangs and wild-horse management I would recommend reading "Honest Horses: Wild Horses in the Great Basin" by Paula Morin, published by University of Nevada Press. The author interviewed 62 people who are involved with the horses in one way or another. There are Wild Horse Specialists, Biologists, Veterinarians, Geneticists, Range Specialists, Horse Trainers, Environmentalists, Wild Horse Advocates, Ranchers, Adopters and University Professors. It does a very good job of covering the range of opinions and issues involved concerning the wild horses. It has a fair amount of history concerning gathering horses, the Wild-Horse and Burro Act, horses in the west, the Wild-Horse and Burro Program etc. There are quite a few mentions of the Kigers throughout. Especially interesting is Ron Harding's history of the program in Oregon and the Kiger and Riddle HMA's
Folks who contributed that you might recognize include Ron Harding, Gary McFadden, John Sharp, Bryan Neubert and Richard Shrake. Several Members of the National Wild Horse Advisory Board Contributed. This is a good way to see what they are thinking. Overall I think it is a very interesting and informative book.

Yeah, I think it's an awesome book.....I got it at the last Kiger adoption...wanted to have Ron Harding sign it but was afraid I'd embarrass him asking...I got to talk to him at length one morning over breakfast and it was VERY interesting...Another one of those guys I could of talked to for YEARS!
It does have some interesting and thought provoking discussions.
