Early this evening, I finally got to sit down for a few minutes and as I gazed out into the broodmare pasture I see Nesa trotting up the pasture with a foal running next to her! I about fell off my chair! I had just seen her two hours before grazing with the other mares and no foal at that point, so this little one was brand new!
She was not officially due until the 16th and she had typical maiden mare udders, so hard to tell really what is going on (plus maiden mares usually go late because they tend to hold on to things longer). This was a big surprise for sure!
Of course it is a filly!!!!! Very leggy, short back, nice angles. Can't figure if she is dun or grulla. She has a red dorsal and I don't remember any of our grullas ever having that, only the duns - maybe someone else would have an idea.
Will put up picts tomarrow!

My guess is she is a dun - no white. Nesa is not too thrilled with me around, but is better than last night already, so I am hoping to be able to handle the filly in the next day or so. Today she is already wanting to see what I am all about. Last night was a full moon, so I was thinking of something with "Luna" in her name...

Now that is a lovely surprise! She took Chili's turn to foal. Is poor Chili still holding out? Another beautiful foal Michelle. Linda D

I've not ever had a grulla born with a red dorsal, so my guess would be dun. All my grulla's to date have been born looking dun, but they have all had a black dorsal. Lovely babies Michelle, all of them! Remind me who is daddy of this little one? Kim

What about naming her Luna Alegremente Brillante? It means Brightly Shining Moon in Spanish.

Her daddy is Charro. Good name suggestion....!
I do belive she is a dun too now that I got a better look at her.
