Tonight Lynn and I did the nail test on the mares just for fun to see if they are having colts or fillies.
We hung a nail off of a string and held it over the mares hips. If it moves straight back and forth, it is a colt. If it circles, its' a filly. Supposedly, it works off of magnetic fields.
Soooo.....this is what we came up with: Contora - filly Sycha - colt Morgan - colt Nesa - colt Chilli - colt Momma - filly
Oh, we tested my gelding Rev - it did not move so he's not pregnant!! ;D Good thing!

Out of all the mares due this year (5) so far we have had two colts. A dun from Fuzzy (aka Maid N Canada) and a Clay Bank from our Charro Daughter. All I can say is that there are going to be some great geldings available this fall!!!!!

And where are the picts of those colts?!?!?!?!?! Yes, would not be so bad to get some nice geldings for sale - I have a hard time selling those fillies! Though a purebred colt by Charro will be hard to sell until it is older and I see the real quality, as someday I will need a replacement.

Kelly... are you holding out on us or did I miss a post somewhere about this years Canadian foal crop so far??? I have noticed a trend towards geldings here and mares and fillies and bit of a harder sale. So bring on the geldings

I know geldings have the reputation for being very solid, even tempered animals as compared to mares and especially stallions, but I had a gelding that was a total jerk. He was stubborn as heck and when you insisted on things, he would get ticked off and turn red literally all the way down his neck. I had the ranch owner tell me that I was having trouble because I didn't know how to deal with the horse. So I let him give it a try. He wasn't on the horse for maybe five minutes before the horse backed into an almost sitting position and then tried for a moon shot. After struggling with the horse for maybe twenty minutes, the ranch owner got off and handed him back and told me I had an unmanagable horse. I had never had problems like that with him, he never tried to launch me or anything, he would just stomp and complain and his eyes would get bloodshot and he would turn red down his neck. On the otherhand, I had a mare that was a delight. I rode her on all day trail rides with just a halter and lead rope. She followed me around without even having to be held. She was very attentive and lived to please you. She had no bad days. She was so good, that the ranch owner constantly borrowed her for lessons, and one day I even saw her on the front page of one of the sections of the newspaper. She had been used in a wedding. Firefly does have her grumpiness when she's in season but she still is a pretty good girl.

Sorry for the lack of pictures and info. I am NOT holding out.....HONEST!!!! We bought the Cayuga International Speedway last month and my life has changed as I know it. I have been so busy I need 2 weeks just to schedule in a pee break....REALLY!!! I will do my best to make some time this weekend and get some pics. The Charro daughter's colt (un named as yet) is by Casper, Bettye and Carters stallion from Oklahoma. The colt from Fuzzy (Partial blood Kiger) is by Shelby. This colt will have a 50/50 chance of turning grey (if not more) His mother was born almost bay and greyed out on the first foal shed. Her mother, Saleen was almost black and has greyed out a bit more each year. The grey as far as I know comes from Silverado, Saleen's grandsire. We are also expecting a foal from Kizzy's mom, Bit O Honey and Saleen. I will do my best to post pictures as soon as I can.

Well, here it is with only 30 minutes left of the weekend and not a picture to be had. We had some of the worst spring storms with high winds, lightning and heavy rain this weekend. The only thing I could see was a wall of water in between the lightning so pics will have to wait until next weekend. Perhaps by then we will have Kizzy's full sib on the ground. She is ginormous and sucky as ever so I fugure it won't be long till she drops. No wax yet but the foal has obviously started to move into position.
