Today was a windy day, so I decided to have some fun. I took Firefly out on her halter and lead (about six foot). I had a big grey tarp with me. I dragged it next to us, made it flap in the wind above our heads, wrapped up in it and played peek a boo with her (she loved that game!) piled it up and kicked it around with her, walked all around her with it flapping all around me, and finally tied it to the outside of her stall. She loved the games, she burried her face in the flapping tarp multiple times. She nuzzled it, pushed it around, chewed on it and watched it flap everywhere. She started out being a bit afraid of it, but in very short order (especially after the peek a boo game), she decided it was a great noisy toy. We also walked between and over rail road ties, worked on bending to slight pressure with just her halter and clip on reins, etc. She's such a smart, fun girl! I didn't get pictures of any of it because I was the only one there. Hopefully I can get some decent pictures. In the future, we will be walking through the flapping tarp, backing through it, etc. Then we will do all the same thing with a bright blue tarp. We're going to continue with the railroad ties and get some tires for her to walk through. I want to have a great course put together that has all sorts of 'toys' that she will go through. She's way too much fun

I am so happy that you have Firefly at your own place so that you can enjoy each other! She sure sounds like her brother. When I went to introduce the tarp to Bolero, he grabbed the tarp out of my hand shook it, held it down with his foot and pulled to tear it, and when I finally spread it out he rolled on it. While it wasn't much of a training device, it sure was a favorite toy!Keep having fun! I love hearing about the two of you!

I do a lot of woodworking and I went into the garage today to set up all of my woodworking tools including the vacuum system that hooks up to them. Firefly followed me right into the garage, was checking out all the items on the shelves, snuffled up and down the side of my car, went to the back of the garage and checked out all of my power tools. I was in the process of hooking up the vacuum system so I was tossing vacuum hoses around. She didn't flinch when they flew or when they hit the ground rather loudly. She just thought it was all great fun. Then, when I had the vacuum hose that I wanted, in place, she started chewing on my screwdriver while I was trying to tighten the hose clamp. She thought the garage was great fun to be in! When she finished playing with stuff, she went to the area just outside the garage and stood there munching on newly sprouted weeds and such while watching me work. I swear that horse thinks she's a dog.
We have been working to lighten her responses, I put her halter on and attached a clip on set of reins. I have her bending her neck to the side with just slight pressure on the reins attached to her halter and nothing else. She is also backing with just wiggling the reins and telling her to back. She really is great fun!
