Hi all,
Spring isn’t really here yet, but it is time to visit the HMA’s for us. We are going next Friday unless it snows. Too cold to camp yet, but we will spend a long day on the Kiger HMA and may not even make it to the Riddle. We want some footage of winter in the Steens and this one has not been too bad yet, but it is a good excuse to go. I can’t wait for foaling season, although, in the wild it may already be happening. I want to look for the grulla stallion, mare and dun colt that were so friendly to us last summer. I hope she has a new foal.
Does anyone have info showing the fences on the Kiger HMA? We have some paperwork dating back to about the Ron Harding days, but I question its accuracy this many years later. My goal this year is to do less walking and more shooting, and boy can they move much quicker than we do. If we sight horses we will have digital stills to post after the trip.
We have a small list of folks to interview for the documentary: Ron Harding – health permitting, Josh Warburton, Andi Harmon, Ramona perhaps – we already interviewed Gary McFadden last summer. As we have no political axe to grind in the documentary we feel it is important to record Kiger history so to speak and that would include anyone who has played a significant role in or has extensive knowledge of Kigers. We want to speak with happy Kiger owners and breeders also, so if you would like to put in your “two cents” let us know. If you have a horse or horses you would like to have appear in the documentary let us know. It is in part to promote the Kigers and show the world what we already know about them. You can contact us directly if you like
The documentary will include more than Kigers, but as our interest in them is part of our lives we started there. We plan to include interviews with at least one horse geneticist/vet and a person or people who have trained Kigers. This is truly a low budget endeavor, but we are very serious, impartial and committed to the work.
Thanks,
Bobbe
