This is Firefly right after her bath... This if Firefly after she rolled in the grass right after her bath.... I missed the actual picture of her rolling, my batteries died... This is Firefly after I brushed off all the grass and miscellaneous other stuff she got on her pretty clean coat. It was a beautiful day here. She played and rolled and ate and played some more. When she went into her stall, she was tired. Me, I did work around the place, fixed the connection to her waterer and cleaned and such.

Isn't that always the way? You bathe them and then the dirt just seems to seek them out!!! She looking so good, I really love the look on her face in the last picture. "Roll marks? What roll marks Mom, honest, I have no idea how they got there!!

What a lucky horse! It is great to see you both so happy! Firefly looks so much like Springtime, your two peas in a pod! That being the case you may want to consider a grazing muzzle for part of each day or she is likely to balloon with all that yummy grass to graze. They are very easy keepers and plump like an Oscar Meyer weiner. The other option is much more fun...ride, ride, ride.
No bathing horses here. It will be about 20 degrees with lots of wind today. Last night it was 9 degrees and with windchill it was well below 0. A ground hog is rummaging about my hedgerow as I type so the little buggers are out of hibernation. He should hunker down again!

She gets out to play in the grass about three to four hours a day. The rest of the time she's in her stall. I need to find out about the trails and such around here. Also, I'm having someone truck in some sand for her stall, the ground here once it dries is very hard and she gets it packed in her feet and she's gotten a bit tender footed.

When I worked at the riding stable (eons ago) we used to have a lot of trouble with this aweful Haldimand clay building up in their frogs so we would coat their frogs with vaseline. It made it really easy for us to dislodge the packed in clay. We found it worked better than baby oil, the vaseline had a better residual factor. Make sure to cover the frog only, not the base of the hoof wall as it can effect their traction.

great suggestion! It should also be a bit of a moisture barrier and such too. Yes! she gets it well and truly packed in! She's out right now playing in the grass. I finally found a device that should help me cinch up my saddle without killing my back. www.quickcinch.com/page/266101I'm going to get one of these and see how I do with it. A big problem with me riding right now is just that I can't get the cinch tight enough on my own, it puts too much stress on my back and I just can't do it.

I must say I am envious you get to bath your horse and that you live in a area warm enough to even consider doing so. It is still to cold here and I am home to a herd of dirty beasts. Other then that, I love the pictures. Firefly looks great and so happy in her new home. All that green and grass looks just lovely That quick cinch looks pretty neat and handy, I do hope that it does the trick in making saddling easy enough for you to do on your own, without strain on your back.

I'll let you guys know on the quick cinch. Hopefully it works out. I'll have to get a picture of Firefly lazying around in the grass. She loves to lay down and I went out and she was laying down in the grass just watching everyone

She sure does remind me of Sundance. Good luck with the cinch. Did you try a cinch that has a roller bar on it?

It certainly looks lovely and warm out there in California. Here in VT we are having 0 degree weather once again. Yuck. It is so cold today with wind chill below zero that my second graders have to have an indoor recess.

I did get a cinch that had a roller bar on it, it helped but not too much. I found another cinch system that I liked even better. I'll post a picture of Firefly all saddled up with it when I get it. I'm still trying to find out about the access point to the trails around here. I'm also getting a round pen for her continued training. That I won't be able to get till about the end of March. I found a fellow that digs pools that has a whole lot of sandy soil. He is going to give it to me for delivery charge only, so I will fill the stalls and round pen area with the sand... There are advantages to living close to the beach Today the little girl got cuttings of an apple, a canalope and a watermelon. I didn't give her grapes because if I remember right, grapes aren't good for them? What other fruits do you all consider good for them?
