Well I finally managed to get someone to go out to the barn with me and take some pictures. Keno is doing great, I love him. Every time I work with him I can't help thinking how lucky I was to get such a nice horse. I've had a couple people offer to buy him from me! Like I would let that happen! Everyone comments that he doesn't look like any mustang they've ever seen.
You know those annoying post cards your relatives send you in the middle of winter that show the tropical island paradise they're vacationing in? We'll Keno wanted me to send this one to Mom and Dad.
Keno and I have been working hard to get back in shape. Lots of hilly trails and arena work. We had to take much of the winter off due to rain. We had some of the worst flooding in years here in Hawaii. Fortunately Keno's paddock is on high ground, so he wasn't flooded out. I did have to fight with thrush for a few weeks. I won the battle though and his toes are nice and healthy. The road into our stable wasn't so lucky.
We now have to use the back entrance to get to the barn, as this road will be out of commission for quite some time.
Keno and I are gearing up for our first schooling show in April. It's being held at our barn so no worries about travel. I've been working on balance, bending and rhythm with him, as well as just conditioning. A week or so ago I decided to pop him over a little crossbar to see how he would react. We won't be doing any major jumping until late this summer. I want to make sure he's done growing. Anyway, Keno took the fence like it was old hat. He didn't bat an eye. I really think he's going to enjoy jumping. I didn't get a picture of the fence, but here's one of us working.
That's about all the updates for now. So I'll leave you with one last parting picture. Forgive the divot across his nose, the hair was laid flat from his fly mask.
