What home grown vegetables are a good supplement for horses? Are there quantity limits to feeding as there are with apples? I have moved to Escondido and am on a five acre parcel where I will be able to keep Firefly right on the property with me. I have already purchased a nice stall for her and will be having a round pen delivered probably in March as I'm ordering direct from the manufacturer in Nevada. Money is very tight and I'm squeezing the money from elsewhere to do this, but she's worth it. Little by little I will introduce her to natural grazing on the property. But for now she will continue on the hay she is used to. I plan to have her transported here in mid February. I've not chosen a shipper yet.

Hoorah! Glad this is working out for you. I used to live in Escondido until 1986. Nice place.

I have a whole list somewhere of good veggies/fruit for horses...I will have to dig it up.
Carrots need to be limited with our EMS (Equine Metabolic Syndrome) horses - too much sugar. Though they hold good value, especially for Vit. A, limit to only 1 a day.
Charro LOVES watermelon rinds, along with papaya and mango...!

I don't know if its good for them but my horses will fight over the green stalks of corn after the corn has been picked. We gave just a couple small ones to the horses and Chinny managed to fold it up in his mouth so no other horse could get any of it. The folks where we used to be in Chehalis would feed an occasional ear of corn to the cows and horses. Bravo bit the bull and chased him away from it. Apparently corn is too good for cows. They were feeding plums as well but I asked them to stop as I was afraid of the pits causing a blockage. I do think that too much at once is bad, especially if they aren't used to whatever it is.

UPDATE!!
Firefly is on her way here on Monday. I'll be driving up to Nevada tomorrow and meeting the people at the ranch to pick her up. Then I will follow them back to the property. I will get pictures of her in her new place. She has a better view than WE do!
