I am thinking I have seen a video somewhere on this forum of a horse walking with a broken shoulder; was that Mari? if so, where is that posted? I can't remember... Lil

I posted a video of a horse who had a broken shoulder--but it wasn't Mari. This horse was immediately taken for care and got the works--Mari got nothing and had to survive in the wild. As I watch this other horse, I think about just how much she had to endure and my heart just breaks and swells all at the same time. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=aBnWfKnvndU

Mari is an amazing creature to be sure. None of us could endure such an injury, without pain meds, casts etc., and still have to evade preditors and get ourselves fed. She's definitely got a lot of heart and character.

"She's definitely got a lot of heart and character. " It's a shame her adopter and subsequent two owners didn't see it But thank God she's not with any of them anymore--the last owners didn't *want* to do it, but between her shoulder and her trust issues, they were seriously considering putting her down. Of all of my horses, Mari is "The Angel" and I think for her to have survived with that shoulder, she must have a pair of wings hidden on her somewhere ;D

She probably does I can imagine her trust issues were probably strong to begin with, but were very much reinforced by changing hands and such. I'm glad she's finally 'home'

Ouch, that hurts to watch. How long did it take her to recover, and was she able to recover pretty well?

"How long did it take her to recover?"
She came in from the wild already "healed" -- that's what is so fascinating to me--she had this and had to keep up with her herd! So when I see that other horse with the same injury, I just try to picture her out in the wild and I can't.
When she came in for the adoption, her left shoulder had an obvious deformity and her left hoof had developed into a smaller/taller "club" like one.
At the walk she has a noticeable gimp, but at the trot and canter you'd have to be skilled to see the differences. The farrier I've started her with feels like she could be ridable--but that's not really a goal of mine and I have too many I need to ride as is!
