That is true. The Colonial Spanish horse world does not consider the Kiger to be Spanish. We all consider them to be well promoted dun mustangs. Only the HOA will consider them, but the HOA will consider anything. They even registered a Nevada Mustang and a Nokota gelding...

It should also be noted that KimJ in that post is our very own "barbhorses," some people wouldn't know.

Yup. I am KimJ or Kimberlee Jones. This SM board is the "secret" board that is not hooked up to any official site. So, if you feel compelled to give facts about the Kiger to broaden the knowledge base on that board then you are more than welcome as the board is not moderated very intensely. You wont get anywhere with this group with out hard facts though. TomH "stirs the pot" all the time!
Also, it isn't as though what I wrote on that board hasn't been stated in some way or another on this one. So, shouldn't be surprising what my impressions are of most people that own Kigers.
The "barbhorses" name comes from when I was suckered into believing Robert Painter. After he could not provide proof of his claims and then actually got livid at me when I really pushed for his documents that supposedly backed up his claims after waiting for them for years. That told me he is full of crap and doesn't have anything to back up what he claims about his horses.
What is really great about Kiger people though is their willingness to work together and get the Kiger name out there! I love reading about people's ideas and what they are doing to promote the breed.

Kimberlee, Personally we really do not care how you and other organizations (who have questionable knowledge and or expertise) of what constitutes a true Spanish Horse anyway, evaluate the Kiger breed. I find it quite flattering that you and others choose the Kiger breed as subject of your discussions. It is not our intention to live up to your breed standards as we do not expect you to live up to our (breed) standards of perfection either. Trying to play nice here. Melissa, if you choose to be one of the many that do not require actual facts to confirm your points of view of your own breed, then that is fine. I am here as I nearly bought a Kiger before I saw my gorgeous Sulphur mare. I also admire the great promotional ideas and activities of the Kiger people. I often will take or go about it from a different perspective on the rare occasion I find a Kiger idea applicable to the CS horse breeds and present those applicable ideas to my CS horse friends.
Your opinion here just adds to the opinion of my own and that of my friend's about Kigers. Why don't you post facts instead of being insulted. No one every said that a Kiger was a bad horse. You must realize the difference in talking about history and conformation type vs. a great temperament and a nice riding horse. Any horse that has the right conformation and temperament can be a good riding horse. However, the topic at hand is Spanish history, genetics, and conformation.

I have solid proof that Firefly is of spanish decent! Yesterday, I caught her saying El Neighho and when the INS showed up she hid behind the shed at the back of the yard! Honestly, I don't care what people think about her far distant ancestry. I don't care if other registries consider her spanish or not. She's a great horse, she's smart, has a wonderful personality, she's beautiful and so very much more!
