Hello everyone,
We've had LOTS of inquiries about how the November 8-10 Kiger Mustang
Adoption went, so I thought I'd write with some facts and figures and
follow-up - there are some important details here, so please READ
EVERYTHING!!!
- People from 21 states came to Oregon for the Kiger event: Oregon,
Washington, Idaho, California, South Dakota, Wyoming, Illinois, Tennessee,
Georgia, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Rhode Island, New York,
Pennsylvania, Alaska, Missouri, Ohio, Montana, and New Mexico
- Adopters from 14 states actually took animals home with them to Oregon,
Washington, Idaho, California, South Dakota, Wyoming, Illinois, Tennessee,
Georgia, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, and Missouri
- 93 people registered to adopt; only 63 of those actually adopted... a
total of 95 Kigers and 11 other horses from the Beaty's Butte and Jackie's
Butte Herd Management Areas found new homes! 1 other horse was purchased
through the sale authority, and another was re-assigned through the
Training Incentive Program
- The 'high bid' horses were a 2006 Dun Stallion from the Kiger HMA for
$7800 and a 2005 Grulla Filly from the Kiger HMA for $7,400. A list of
all successful bids is attached...
(See attached file: Kiger 2007 Adoption Results.pdf)
- Unadopted Kigers to be available via INTERNET ADOPTION beginning January
16: the remaining Kigers at Oregon's Wild Horse Corral Facility in Hines,
Oregon (with the exception of sick ones) will be placed on the internet for
competitive bid adoption beginning January 16th. These horses hey will
remain at the facility until they are adopted. Successful internet
adopters in the Northwest will have to come to Burns to pick up the
animal(s) they adopted; horses for successful adopters that are not in the
Northwest will be shipped to central locations that will be determined
depending on where the successful bidders live. There will also be some
horses from the Beaty's Butte Herd Management Area and possibly some from
the Jackies Butte Herd Management available on the January 16 internet.
Beaty's and Jackies Butte horses not available online are available for
walk-up from the corral facility any time during regular business hours.
Pictures of ALL the internet adoption horses will be posted online shortly
after January 1. BLM's internet adoption site is located at:
www.blm.gov/adoptahorse/ REMEMBER - if you want to participate
in this adoption, you MUST fill out an on-line adopter
registration/application...this is the only way to become an elegible
bidder for the on-line event. Even if you have an approved paper
application in a BLM office somewhere, you HAVE to fill out an online
version to participate in an on-line adoption. Questions about this
process? Phone 1-800-370-3936 or email Inet_Adoption@blm.gov.

several higher-resolution catalogs leftover from the adoption; if you'd
like one sent to you in the mail, just drop me a note WITH YOUR MAILING
ADDRESS. If you don't send your address, I can't send you a catalog.

OTHER Wild Horse and Burro Program NOTES....
- For Wild Horse and Burro Program volunteers in Oregon and Washington, I
REALLY REALLY need you to report your volunteer hours from last year
(October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007). You can fill out the
attached form electronically and ship it back to me.... hopefully sooner
than later! We REALLY appreciate all your work and would love to share
your accomplishments with our state office... so please get back to me!
(See attached file: Volunteer Tracking Form_individual.xls)
- OR/WA is having a special promotion in December 2007, January 2008, and
March 2008 - ANY animal(s) adopted directly from the corral facility
(INCLUDING THOSE ADOPTED VIA THE INTERNET DURING THE JANUARY 16 ONLINE
EVENT) during those months will qualify for FREE HAULING, up to 400 miles
one way from Hines, Oregon. There are some GORGEOUS animals currently
available from the Beaty's Butte and Jackie's Butte herds, both gathered
this summer/fall. The Murderer's Creek herd is going to be gathered this
December, so the facility will have plenty for you to choose from. Make a
trip out this way if you can and take advantage of the FREE HAULING!
Hope this finds everyone happy and healthy. Best wishes for 2008!! My
apologies to those of you getting this email twice...
