Just for fun I thought I'd post a pic of one of our mustang's freezebrand, and let you all try and read it. I'll give it several days, and then let you know if anybody gets it right . This mare went 22 years without a title, because as she was sold and re-sold, no one could ever read her freezebrand. Is it Tracey who said "I love my BLM!" ? Well, ME TOO. Mostly Ramona. We took this mare to a BLM clinic/adoption once to try and get the brand read, and the number they came up with didn't fit our horse. So last year, I e-mailed Ramona with the sketchy info we had (possible year and state of adoption), pics of the brand, and a good face shot of the horse, and Ramona was back to me in less than an hour! I was impressed. I will tell you, she is not a Kiger. Happy guessing , Lil And just to brag on my daughter, Grace, here is the mare, who was barely broke when we got her. Grace has done all her own training and now has a great 4-H show horse!

That would be me!!! And I do love our BLM...and not just Ramona (although she's something special, isn't she?) They do a kick butt good job there in Burns. I'm not even going to try to read that brand...but I'll take a stab that she's not from Oregon. And age is 23 this year. (born in 86.) After that it almost looks like two more symbols stacked on top of each other, like her birth year. Do you suppose they used a different system back then for branding?

I am really interested to find out, since I have always been curious about what the symbols mean.

Good job so far! Yes, Tracey, year of birth is 86, and yes, she is not from Oregon :-). It is the same symbols for freezebrands that they use now, just a particularly blurry one. Maybe they didn't hold her still enough while branding
And Yay Lisa! You got one more number correct, the fourth digit is a 1. The rest are still up for guesses. Lil

Yay Kim! you got ONE more number correct :-) The third number is a 5! So it is the 5th number that nobody can read (ME INCUDED!) The info we got when we bought her was that she was born in 86, from Nevada, and was adopted as a yearling at a satellite adoption in Washington. With that info, and really good face picture showing her markings, Ramona came up with her number. She came out of the Nevada Wild Horse Range, Nevada, on the Nellis Air Force Base. This HMA was the very first wild horse area established by the government, in 1962, in response to the pubic pressure raised by Wild horse Annie and other horse enthusiasts. Ramona also added that Gary McFadden, the wild horse specialist there in Burns, was in charge of the particular gather she was captured in. He was delighted to see how good she looked, and know of her happy ending. And, because she was so old, she automatically fell under the sale authority law, so she was tited to us for $25. So, the number I have from Ramona is 86517357. Here is the face shot I sent Ramona.
