Hey all, the Kiger mare, Mist (aka Firecracker) and Quiet Storm are in need of some assistance.
The woman who has them both called in tears yesterday. She's had some heart problems and recent surgery (bypass), and yesterday got off the phone with the hospital. They've given her a $27,000 bill and expect $500 month payments. She has no insurance; her husband is disabled but makes just enough for them not to qualify for state and not enough to afford major medical.
She called saying she needed to find new homes, but was sobbing so hard she finally had to hang up. She's made such great progress with the Kiger that I really hate to see her moved to another home, and that's one of the things Debbie is concerned about, too.
So here's the thing...and I know y'all have enough on your plates...but could you spare a few $$ to help get some hay for these two so she can divert feed money towards medical bills the next couple of months? She's found a place with 5 acres that the horses are staying on free of charge. The little hay she had set aside got wet in the flood so she's starting over. If she can get through the next couple of months it'll give her some breathing room until grass starts coming in, plus she'll have time to try to reduce her medical bills (if possible.)
Should anyone want to contribute, I'm in the process of setting up a separate account specifically for this sort of thing (seems there's always someone in need.) Just pop me a pm and let me know, and I'll give you the account info once it's finalized this week.
Thank you everyone! It means a lot to me because I obviously don't want to see Quiet Storm moved again (and I'm underwater here with no dry place for her), and Mist deserves a shot at an owner who's willing to work with her security issues.
