At the 2008 Trail Blazer Magazine's Expo in Santa Barbara, CA I was invited to compete as 1 of 13 breeds in a Battle of the Breeds, Extreme Trail Horse contest. I took a client's 10 yr old gelding, He did his best but we didn't make the top 3 (that was all they placed) due to his minor stage fright at the indoor arena and crowd. But we sure showed them what a Kiger was!!! The 2nd night of the show was the Junior competition which Linda Tellington-Jones and John Lyons were the MC's and guest judges. Linda came and asked me if she could ride my Kiger for the show. . Right before she entered the ring she said to me: "Believe it or not I have never ridden a mustang before, can you take lots of pictures" Over his stage fright from the night before, the horse was perfect for her. And yes we took lots of pictures!!! ;D This is the contest for which I put the Kiger article in the Nov/Dec edition of the Trail Blazer Mag. I posted in another thread.

Oh I love Linda and her work with the Ttouch, I would love to see some of those pictures...hint if you by chance have any. Someone on this board I believe has had John Lyons ride their Kiger Mustang at a demo' in the past. I think this is just wonderful and kudoos to you for impressing her so with your riding and your client's Kiger.

Good work, Sue.
In 2002, I was at the Western States Horse Expo in Sacramento, when it was just Rowland and I, rather than the KMA-oriented exhibitions that are done nowadays. I had brought a yearling Kiger, and a two year old half Kiger, Seneca of the Steens. Both were great, and Linda Tellington Jones needed a demo horse for her trailer loading demo.
I offered Seneca, and Linda was delighted with her. I made sure that she announced to the crowd that she was half-kiger. Seneca looks somewhat like Spirit, so lots of kids made comments. Seneca was a great horse for a demo, she made Linda look good, which I knew she would. She did have bona fide trailer loading issues, but I figured she would come around quite well and do Linda justice. Apparently, Seneca's issue was having something so low to her head -- that scared her. An interesting thing Linda did was reward her with grain. She said that despite what people say -- don't tempt them with grain -- when the horse chews, it releases endorphins, which helps them relax.
Since it was a last-minute thing, I did not get a chance to get pictures.
Maybe one day we will make a Kiger owner out of her!
