All I can say is WOW ..I guess you got to use it, so you don't loose it. Staying in shape and exercise benefits humans and horses alike. I am sure Elmer is regularly worked in order to compete. I am curious what his other half is if he is only half Arab.

He looks so much like Topic, that I am wondering if the other half is saddlebred?? Topic is 3/4 arab 1/4 saddlebred, or National Show Horse.
I am always shocked when I hear of people retiring there horses in their early teens/twenties. Over the years we have have MANY senior horses that were still going full throttle. My sister's horse Razz lived until 30, and was lightly jumping until the end. I think the only reason that he went down hill is because she retired him. It really is use it or loose it!

I have to agree my ridding horses as of now are a 26 yr old Morgan mare and a 20 yr old Clydesdale both are doing very well. There are a few signs of age here and there, a bit more hollowed out back, a few more gray hairs, but they tackle a trail with no worries and have given me no sign they are ready to slow down. So I keep them in shape and ready to ride. We have just started our spring workouts for this years riding season. I am loving the new warmer weather.

My first mustang came off Smyth Creek HMA in 1975 as a yearling. She is 33 this year, and I rode her in the mountains thru her 28th year. Then she became my little grand niece's horse. This year she is no longer sound due to a problem with her shoulder, but she is still healthy and doing well. Kim
