Well I took my older mare for a trailer ride(just for practice and fun) over to a friends house them took my son to a sleep over and when i returned an hour and a half later i unloaded my mare put her away and fed her. I then turned my attention to Ellie and her filly, gave them their hay and got their grain ready. I gave ellie her grain but noticed the filly(LuLu) had not started to eat her hay and refused her grain also.... I was a bit worried at that point so i started to stand back and watch her......Well she was colicing She was not happy at all! She was trying to dig to china and was kicking out violently. I watched her a bit longer to make sure i was really seeing a colic happening and checked her over a bit more, then called the vet. It took what seemed like a very long 55 min for her to get here. I was walking her when the vet arrived she gave injectable banamine and then gave her a exam she had good gut sounds and her color was still good. but she tubed her which was not easy....doc said its good when they fight the tube that means they are'nt that bad! Any way after that was done she was still really tence so she sedated her to let her relax and when she woke up she started to eat her hay and felt much better and today she is doing great! I am soo happy that it was not more severe and she is still here! I got a bit worried for awhile when it was hard to keep her on her feet and doc not there yet. I hope everyones last night was better than mine

Glad she's ok. I know how scary that is. What was the reason for colic, stress from hauling? Just glad it turned out on the positive side. Its scary when you have no control and dont know what to do. Ive seen several horses colic and its not very pretty. Now Im a big worry wart about colic.

We dont know the reason for the colic, but vet said foals can get kind of freaked out when they get gas and think they are going to die...so MAYBE that was it but not sure. She was dewormed 3 weeks ago and has been befor that, so it should not have been parasites, but doc also said could be ulcers. Ellie always gets all worked up when i take my horse away, but i thought since the baby was with her she wouldent mind us leaving...maybe the filly was worked up cuz mom was fretting about my mare leaving. dont really now, but i think i will do a tube of ulcergard when i wean just in case it is ulcers.

I too amd glad to hear that your eposode of colic ended on a good note and your filly is OK today. I do so hate when my horses get sick suddenly and colic is very bothersome indeed.

Well...Miss LuLu is doing well..I thought maybe she would never let me near her nose ever again since i let the vet shove a big tube down it, but she dosent mind me playing with it. I have started weaning today so we will see how she dose through that...I also am doing the Panucur purge for worms for 5 days and 8 days of ulcergard just in case that it was ulcers and i figuered she would be upset with mom locked in the next paddock.
