Some may remember that I got a small mule 2 months ago. Well despite being well trained, riden and handled easily by children and driven as a team, Jerry would not let me catch him and took weeks just to get him to accept a treat from the opposite side of the fence and a month ago from the same side. Due to all of the ice problems this year there was no hurry as I couldn't do much with him anyhow and I just allowed it to take the time it takes. Tonight, he just walked up to me and let me rub him all over, (seems to like eye rubs), I led him and he nuzzled me. I walked away after a while and he followed me. So we're buds now. I just kept offering and let him decide if I was trust worthy. I feel so honored. When the animal picks the human it always seems to turn out better. It has been interesting to watch him observe me interact with the horses and donkey, my pocket pets. I also think that he feels more secure in his rank in the herd, and willing to vye for my attention. Nice ending to a very trying week. Chica coliked but is on the mend, hubby has had a horrible flu for 2 weeks and is on the mend, so Jerry accepting me is a nice diversion that picked up my spirits. I met a group of mule owners and they all agreed that Jerry appears to be a Hafflinger-mule. Linda D

I agree. With the untamed donkeys I get to work with we are told to let them choose when they are ready to get acquainted. It's a thrill to realize one of them has finally butted up to you from behind to say hello.
I've always admired mules.

Oh congratulations ;D and wonderful news I am so happy Jerry has decided you are pretty cool to hang out with. I am glad to hear Chica's collic episode has passed and your hubby is feeling better, if he is anything like mine sick hubbies can be pitiful. Well, I can only imagine the big smile Jerry put on your face. I would really love to see a picture of this wonderful mule a Halflinger mule sounds very interesting and beautiful, does he have a lovely flaxen mane as well?
